: Tell me your thoughts on this way to change lug pattern
DozerDan 03-20-2002, 04:05 PM Okay so if i can get some free 15x10 6 on 5.5 rims ( i cant just run them bc my tires are 33x10.5) What if i grind out the center section of those rims and welded them onto my rims. then redrilled my rims so the the hols lined up. Essentially it will be a double thick center section with the bolt pattern I want. Think it will work?
I dont think i can redrill my rims w/o supporting it in someway due to the locations that they will fall in.
Thoughts, comments, wisecracks?
TODDK 03-20-2002, 04:12 PM Are you running 15 now? If so why don't you put your old wheels on a lathe and the the old and then weld them in? Tha t see easier and then your holes will be centered...
JIM3030 03-20-2002, 04:20 PM your you saying 10.5 tires won't fit on 10 inch rims????????

I kinda had that in mind. I was going to opent he center up then line up the two centers and weld. Is that what you are saying?
10.5" tires on a 10" rim.... hmm idk think so...
TODDK 03-20-2002, 04:27 PM yeah that will work
not alot of info to go on....
more info please...
mytzlflick 03-20-2002, 04:31 PM it sounds to me like you are thinking of stacing the centers? or am I just reading it funny, if that is your thought I would suggest against it, the outer would be bolted in place and the inner would be pressed against the hub, I don't think it would run straight.
measure the centers and see if you can swap em between rims. or just run the tires on the 15x10's

I am putting a yota rear axle in my jeep. My current rims are 15x7 ar 767's with 5 on 4.5 lug pattern. I am being given a set of 15x10 6 on 5.5 lug pattern rims.
I dont know if I want to completely swap centers. I would do it so that my rim center sits on the hub and the other center is welded to the outside.
I am thinking this should work. I dont know if i want to run 33x10.5's on 15x10" rims. It seems like .25" eitehr side is not enough, especially when aired down.
Hayraker 03-20-2002, 06:32 PM Just buy some tires, and put the 10.50's on a go-cart or something.

Sounds good, just hook me up with your credit card # and we are all set. :flipoff2: The tires and rims were free so i am not complaining.
Hayraker 03-20-2002, 06:50 PM I'll e-mail it to you

This is why we have such crazy laws here. Do you really think that this is safe?
Moab Austin 03-20-2002, 08:17 PM how about filling in the holes with weld (use a alluminum plate behind it to keep it smooth) and put it on a lathe - then when turning it make the circle you want with a scratch, then use that circle to redrill...
BUT how would you taper the holes for the nuts??
anyone think this would work?? or be dangerous?
how much are used wheels? they gotta be less than 100 bucks for all of em??
hmm damn I would prolly not trust em - I would look for some that all ready exist
Randy 03-20-2002, 08:37 PM plenty of people want 10s so trade them for there 8" wheels insted of recking two sets of wheels.:flipoff2:
DozerDan 03-20-2002, 09:19 PM yeah i might jsut buy some used ones. I hate that wheel spacers are illegal in NJ. I am gonna look into it more this weekend
I dont think it would be dangerous. It would be like redrilling my rims then adding a brace... hmm idk
pcorssmit 03-21-2002, 07:49 AM Buy some new wheels you cheap bastard. :flipoff2: Or get some real tires.
You can run 31 x 10.50s on 15 x 10s no prob., not ideal in the long run but it works.
Pete
mytzlflick 03-21-2002, 08:49 AM problem is if you look at the rims you have now they are stamped to make the lug nut holes so thats where they are designed to take all the force exterted on em, if you put the scond one on and drill you will be exetring that clamping pressure in a way the first rim was not designed for.
if you are going thru all this work removing both centers and swaping the only way that i would consider safe.
maybe hit the local wrecking yard for some stock toy rims? I'll bet they trade even for your 15x10's
