Well first you take the 4.0 out and then you drop the 4.7 in. Pretty easy!!:smokin:

Now before everyone flames your ass move this to the newbie section!!

Then contact Advanced Adapters, Novak, or http://www.dakotaparts.com/ for swap information.

Start with either a bellhousing from a 94 and later 3.9L V6 Dodge Dakota pickup or one from a 3.7L V6 Jeep Liberty. You can hook that up to your AX-15 but it would probably be best to upgun to a Jeep NV3550. That will bolt straight up to your transfer case. That's how you get started.

Toddy, you will run into several problems you must deal with:

1. Just use the 4.7 w/NV3550 to start with so yu can avoid any clutch problems with different bellhousing combos...along with any auto trans nighgtmares as the 45RE has its own ECM but has to have communication with to the 4.7 ECM or you will get a ton of codes.

2. You will need a new dash and under dash harness out of a 2001 + TJ as the 4.7 V8 uses serial(PCI Buss) communication and your 98 uses the older parallel(ccd Buss) communication and much like your home computer parallel and serial communication are not compatable.

3. Wiring harness and emissions equipment from the 4.7 as it uses a Leak Detection Pump and your TJ probably doesnt have one...without it you will get a check engine light and it will not run correctly.

4. motor mounts are not available in kit form so they will have to be made from scratch....

5. It is a billion times easier and cheaper to get a 5.2 V8 instead and there are complete kits available along with pre made wiring harnesses.
