darn it.. I meant COLORADO

RockRanger
03-20-2002, 06:35 PM
I say arizona They have a ton of trails there around pheonix. Depending on where you live you could get to most of the major trails in cali in 12 hours as well as probably moab farmington and south west colorado. I think flagstaff would be cool to live in. Also in AZ you dont get all the :rainbow: laws they have in cali

Cherokee Paul

Southwest Colorado.. about 4 hours from Moab, 2 hours to Farmington, Montrose is right there.. 8 hours to Independence..

All times are estimates!

Yea, Colorado sucks! Way too cold, no sunshine, can't wheel in the winter because of the snow. And you have to learn to speak Spanish to communicate. No really good trails. Have to keep your top on 11 months of the year.

squirrelman83
03-20-2002, 08:57 PM
Colorado!!! I love the snow. Easy trails can be made difficult with the addition of snow in the winter time. Great trails around for summer wheelin' (Holy Cross, Mt. Blanca, Indy, etc, etc). Plus, Spidertrax is up in Longmont!!! :D ~Steve

You ever even heard of Oregon??? Cracks me up it isn't even on the list...............more sand than you can imagine (Florence sand dunes, Sand Lake, BEACHES)...............more snow than you can imagine (11,000 ft. mountains tend to have snow)................mud? hahahahha, don't have that reputation for rain for nothing................trails? All this within 2 hours of Portland.

Almost forgot, forests that you can actually use.....................but know what, you don't want to come here.............it rains ALL the time. At least that's what we tell the Californications so we keep our state uncrowded.

NEver mind...............Oregon sucks. :flipoff2:

But if I had to pick from the ones listd - and having never actually been to any of those states - my innitial vote goes to AZ.

We lived in Utah, Calif., & now we're back in Oregon. Utah was beautiful & had some awesome wheelin. The fun part was how the weather would change so quickly. We met some really cool people in Utah. There was always some where to go & have fun. The job market isn't too bad there but the pay didn't seem that good. Also you have to pick the right place to live & that's not West Valley! ;)

Calif. is where I was born & raised! Its beautiful there also & has some very cool wheelin. We met some very cool people there & always had something to do.

If I had to choose between the two then we would move back to Utah. Of course we just moved back to Oregon & I reaaaallllly miss the sun!:crybaby2: :crybaby2: Fun mud wheelin though!

Timely for me....
I find out at about 6 tonight where the government will be sending me for the next four years. My soon to be wife has a job in NY she can't leave, so my top 5 choices or so are NY, NJ, CT, etc., but I figured is I can't live real close I'd rather be wheelin a
lot, so my next 10 or so are all southwest and California.
The assignments average about choice 6 to choice 8 for prior groups........

OK is great, a lot of variety on the Eastern side. But, after my trip to AZ, I saw some GREAT stuff! And, you can wheel year round (if you don't mind a little sweat!) :)...

hey-

Arizona's got it all for wheelin'

from sand to snow- from 1200' deserts to the 10000' high pines in 4 hours or less.

you can be at 80 deg's in PHX in January to 20 at the SnowBowl snow boarding in Flagstalf-
and the opposite is true too, from 110 deg's in Phx to the mid 70's in Flag during the summer.

but yeah, it's full :flipoff2:

Ever heard of the black hills?:flipoff2: If you are in the metro area you can make that in under 12.

AZ or CO.

Cali ya get a 300sqft house for $300,000 :D

Problem with CO is lots of it is flooded with tourists.

Problem with AZ is all the Q-tips from the midwest are flooding the state.

Anyway, any of the the states, mentioned, will be better than MN for rocks.

We are talking about moving west as well :D Utah and Colorado have our votes so far. I just can't see being able to make a decent living in UT, since the only decent sized city is SLC, and that to far from Moab :crybaby2: :crybaby2:

Grand Junction is real high on my list, or somewhere there abouts anyway.

I'll vote for CO...tough choice, but the other places aren't ANY farther than it takes me to get to Moab (19 hours straight)

I urge you to look more strongly at Utah. Colorado is a waste of your money. Besides, if you live in Utah, Colorado is still close enough to wheel.

Arizona for sure. We have millions and millions of acres of open public land, and haven't even begun to scratch the surface as far as potential trails. It seem like a new, more extreme trail is being
opened every week. We wheel all year round, most every weekend. But sorry, this state is full, youll have to move on to California.

Nevada really sucks. Don't move here. Stay in Kalifornia, I hear it's awesome there.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to live in a State that doesn't have state tax, no fender or mudflap laws and huge amounts of open public lands. Real close to the good stuff, Rubicon, Fordyce not to mention a few local areas that can become real interesting real fast. And 12 hours to Moab. Nope NEVADA SUCKS!

Oh yeah and we don't have mud often or for long. Nevada is a hot dry miserable place. Go to Kalifornia.

wow not one mention of washington....i think some of the best/closest wheeling is here. we got it all (mud, rocks, snow, sand, and something you others have not had real close experiance with...trees and rootballs) just an hour away from the city. but of those on the limited list i voted for utah.

Las Cruces, NM. Just drive off the highway and go play on old telephone/powerline roads, rocky washouts etc. It is close to Colorado, Arizona and Utah.

Can't say much for wheeling outside of Colo/Utah. But some of the best wheelin I done in Utah was @ Vernal. (Moab will be next)
My vote went to Utah due to its openness of terain, variety of rock, sand, some mud, especially in the Uinta Mtns. Would like to try Az. But for now, I live no more than 90 miles from 34 designated trails ranging from O.K. to HANG ON TIGHT! :smokin:

Would some day like to try all western states:flipoff2:

Those that dont say Utah, have not been wheeling in Utah. Utah is the only state in the union you can wheel for weeks on end without seeing another person. The Canyon country exists nowhere else in the world. At @ 44,000 miles of trails, Utah has more then the rest of the US combined, and of course AZ, NM, CO and even CA are very close. This is NOT a fair comparison, other states cant compete. A vote for the second best place would be more realistic. Second place I would choose Colorado, but California is right there.

Problem with AZ is all the Californians coming down with suitcases full of $$$ after selling their $300,000 300sq ft house. They see our housing prices and buy two... one in the city and one in the mountains. Then they decide they need to make us just like the place they left:flipoff2:

Actually, if you live anywhere in the four corners areas of the 4 states you are only minutes from awesome wheeling. I live in the 4 corners part of NM, moved here from AZ. AZ doesn't even compare to the wheeling we have in this area.:D

AZ. If you ever can't find a trail hard enough, go to the next wash over. Hundreds of thousands of rock waterfalls for the hard core guys to play on. Sure, it's ass hot in the summer in Phoenix, but go north and it's really nice (Flagstaff) or even south of Tucson and there's some good stuff there. Only gets up to about 80-90 on the mountain wash trails.
