Any downsides to mounting a warn 12000 in the rear bumper? I am mainly considering this on the pig to balance the load in the rig a bit.

Do you already have a winch in the front? I don't see a problem with a rear mounted winch, it's very common on expedition rigs in Venezuela, where the tight, muddy jungle trails often don't allow you to turn around for recovery operations. That said, I wouldn't mount one JUST in the back. And I hate those "carry it inside, switch it around" winches, what a PITA.

No front winch yet......

I just figured that a 292 engine-130lb winch- beefy bumper plus two fatso beer drinkers makes for some serious weight in the front compared to the rear.

Any other downsides other than backing up to pull someone out?

I have been running 2 winches for a couple of years now. superwinch up ft and ramsey in the rear. It is a good idea if you have a second winch laying around but i would always have one in the front first.

Front first, spare winch in the rear.
My spare is going on the trailer.

I have winched myself 3-4" many times to get unstuck then gone on wheelin'.

On the rear wouldn't have done me much good.

seems like some of you guys are only thinking of yourselves. a rear winch would also come in handy to help pull out the heep that was trying to follow a tlc!! besides it does offer more options in a recovery situation.

mount it useing a removable mount like
a hitch recever then you could move it
to front or back,

of course you could allway buy the real
cheep harbor freight ramsey imitation
8000 and mount it on the other side.
