I have a 84 cherokee and I'm replacing the crappy front driveshaft on it with one from a newer xj. I need to shorten the driveshaft a bit though, and I need to know how much room I should leave for compression and expansion. The driveshaft has 3"s of slip, should I just set the operating length in the middle so theres 1.5" of slip each way, or is it better to have a bit more slip one way or the other?
This truck was lifted when I bought it so I'm not exactly sure how much, but it has a trailmaster lift and my guess is 3.5" - 4.5"s. Here is an old pic I found so you can guess for yourself how much lift is on it.
Thanks,
