: Seals

So I took my rig (YJ with stock drivetrain) to a tranny place not too long ago for a once over and to see if that funny noise I was hearing was anything to worry about. The guy called me about 15 minutes after I dropped it off and said it was leaking everywhere which I already knew. I figured, hey I never have to change the transmission fluid since it changes itself over time anyway. Basicly the guy said I needed new seals from the main seal back. And wanted to charge me $650 just to seal up the t-case. I said f-it I'll do it myself, except I've never done it before.

So looking at the drivetrain I'm looking at replacing the following:
- Main seal (tranny to engine)
- Tranny pan
- Tranny to T-case
- the main t-case seal
- the seal from the main t-case to the cone
- and the little seal inside to cone for the slip yoke

Did I miss any seals? Can I use RTF on all the seals or do I need gaskets for some? (not including the slip yoke seal) Anything else I should keep in mind? Do I need to worry about marking the placement of pieces of things falling out when I pull things apart?

Replace the trans tailhousing seal as well.

You can use RTV on the t-case halves and tailhousing, but the input and output seals should be replaced.

Get a one piece engine oil pan seal when you replace the rear main seal, and try to find a rubber trans pan gasket.
