: 4x6, what's the use of this??
Diesel_Cruiser 03-21-2002, 08:38 AM Another French cruiser, what's the use of the third axle?? It doesn't have a diff so the reason can't be to gain more traction. There aren't even brakes on the rear axle/wheels. It has the 2F (4.2l) engine.

Diesel_Cruiser 03-21-2002, 08:38 AM another pic
Diesel_Cruiser 03-21-2002, 08:39 AM another one

wngrog 03-21-2002, 08:51 AM I don't know what the purpose is, but it is cool. I would guess better flotation and traction.
Thanks for the post!!

Another French cruiser,
I think you answered all your "What the hell" questions with your first statement. ;)
trd55 03-21-2002, 09:02 AM One idea would be for load distribution. with the upturned "wing" at the back of the back of the cab, it might be used for hualingbig trailers. Maybe:confused: It would be the dam as a dually rear axel, just longer. That my idea....:D :D
rugburn 03-21-2002, 09:32 AM Does this Cruiser have anything to do with the Paris Dakar Rally?
Kind alloks like a chase truck or some kind of support vehicle used in the continent to continent race.
Stupid frnch jackasS 03-21-2002, 09:55 AM :smokin:That truck was built by Andre Koro for the 1985 Paris-Dakar rally. Mr Koro was the boss of the backup team for the official TOYOTA team. So he had to carry parts. But he also had to carry a cameraman for the french television, he needed more room tan the FJ45 had. So he decided to lengthen the frame. In the beginning, the idea was to build a 6x6, but given that he had to finish the car withing 25 days, the car ended up being a 6x4 only. Btw, Mr koro put a supercharger on the F, giving a mere 220 hp for driving fast in the bush, and not getting stuck in the sand. The truck was said to have a max. spped of 110mph. The beast needed something like 60L of fuel every 100 km; which makes approx. 4mpg. SO he had to carry 470L (110 gallons) of fuel...
My thoughts about this truck is that it does not look nice anymore today, but since a cruiserhead, who is also a major cruiserbusiness manager has bought it to restore it, it may end up looking good.
What I anderstand 'bout the 3rd axle (sadly not beeing powered), is that it was needer for better flottation in the sand, and on the top of the dunes, where a longer wheelbase would have been a PITA. And you don't want to have an 8 ft. rear overhang, either...
So GloNDark, you were wrong, and thus deserve a ...:flipoff2:
Just don't flame what you don't understand. Better asking for an explaination :D
