I just finished putting a 75 FJ-40 rear axle in my 86 Sami and can not seem to get the brakes happy. With the twin piston drums on the LC axle, is the Sami master cylinder not pushing enough fluid? If you have swapped in LC axles, did you change master cylinders? Maybe it's the extra weight of the FJ axle and I should just quit whining?

I've heard they can be a little tricky to bleed...
You might try posting on the L.C. board also (if you haven't already)

The sammy master can push enuf fluid for the brakes, just the cruiser braking components suck. I have '67 cruiser axles, and I converted to discs because it was cheap. Much easier than trying to figure out a less than adequate braking system to begin with. Are you capable of some fabrication work? If so, you can easily ditch the drums for discs.

got any pics of the install? I am in the middle of swapping in a set my self
all the LC rear drum brake setups need to be manually adjusted...
with the smaller volume that the Sami master cylinder puts out you will need to keep on top of the wheel cylinder adjustment.
What I have always done is......
Jack up one wheel at a time (if you have a locker . do both)
Lay under the truck , spin the wheel
Adjust the wheel cylinders until the one shoe completely seats (you won't be able to spin the wheel)
then back off five clicks.
do the other shoe in the drum the same way
then do the other side
When bleeding the LC wheel cylinders I always found it helpful to tap the backing plate with a hammer as I was bleeding the brakes to free up any stray air bubbles.
and always bleed the wheel farthest from the Master cylinder first..

I got pictures, but no shiney red star. I'll send them to someone if they want to post them, but it's really nothing tricky or hard. Worst part was shoving the gas tank back (long story.) Most of it bolts up really well.
