I am looking for the parts to convert my '70 fj40 to front disc. I have gone thru the book and called every junk yard in my area and only found one that claims to have the mini truck axel (also has 84 LC axel) but wants $800 for either one. That seems steep, but since no one else seems to have any of these he can set his price accordingly. Does anyone have a line on something I can use in the southeast? I've heard of these going for as low as $200 in places.

Does $350 sound reasonable for a '84 LC power stearing set-up?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone noted the specs on the bolt on front disc conversions yet? Is there a pattern out there somewhere for a braket for the front like the one on woody's site for the rear?

thanks
tom

p.s. Finally got the ignition mess strightened out. Went with an old mallory points dist I found in a box in the garage and a 1.8 ohm resistor from a nearby speed shop. All good now. Time for  and more mods. This time brakes. I have leaks coming out of every component in the system. Might as well revamp it all.

Try trolling in the Toyota truck list, there are plenty of people with those parts around. Also, check for sale and post in the wanted sections... You can use mini-truck parts, use the search and find PLENTY of conversion articles, and it have been covered, so Ih8mud.com tech has it. BTW, I'd say $50 is a good deal on the minitruck power steering box if that is what you wanted. There out there for that fairly frequently. About $200 should net you all the used parts you need for the conversion, whether you use the L/C rotors and IFS calipers will add to this.

Hope that helps...

If you are patient you will find the used parts you need for around the $200 price range to start with but don't expect to get away for less than $500 for everything. You would be ahead of the game if you can find a complete front disk cruiser axle (74-84) Don't forget you need a dual power master cylinder to be safest! although the single power master will work. You can email me with any questions as I have done all this to my 69.
Good Luck

Disc Axles are from 9/'75 to '83 FJ40/'80 FJ55's. For ease of install, get a 9/'75 to 12/78 so you wont have to swap 3rd members. There are adapters out there to adapt the later brake booster and tandem master cylinder to the early firewall. I had no problem getting parts to convert a 1973 FJ55 to discs, and rebuild the knuckles, new rotors, wheel bearings, rebuild the calipers, and I came out well under $500... Possibly the best upgrade to do to a stock older cruiser, and certainly the best interms of a safety concern.

As for the FJ60 steering box, I'd say $200 would be the most I'd shell out for a box. They are around, I've bought about three, and paid not more than $150/ea.
