road1will 03-21-2002, 01:37 PM cool but the pics arent large enough for me to see enough detail- could you please make them larger?
Cutter 03-21-2002, 01:39 PM yep, thems some big pictures...and slow loading, too.
stonpny 03-21-2002, 01:44 PM where do you get quarter elliptic springs? do you make them yourself out of old leaves? are they lift springs?

Usually they are cut from old springs. Of course that is from us poor folk ways. :D Some people prefer from F150-F250 springs.
look an awful lot like chevy rear's... and why the C busing's off the front of a ford for teh mounts?? looks liek htey'd slip and get alot of slop..
looks good, even more bonus points for being original, i havnt seen that done yet. how long did you make the arms? did you make one or the other wristed or maybe put hiems to attach it to the frame? and im guessing its just the 2 arms and a panhard bar?
Wilson 03-21-2002, 03:36 PM I think I've seen those before down here at Bent and Twisted?????
Rock Toy 03-21-2002, 03:58 PM Sorry....I thought I was responding to the thread about Rear Radius Arms. Guess not:rolleyes:
Yep, Mike at Bent & Twisted built the Jeep. Lengthened radius arms in the rear with a panhard. Quarter Elliptic springs out of a Chebby, I think.
aaronlosey 03-21-2002, 04:01 PM those look like the xtv boner shackles on their quarter el junk
Rock Toy 03-21-2002, 05:47 PM huh?!?!?!
arent those 1/4 springs gonna be limited by the radius arms. thats why i asked about the wristed arms, the bronco guys have to run the wristed arms to get the flex out of them.
Does it work any better than coils?
Rock Toy 03-21-2002, 06:14 PM If you're lookin' for photo-flex, this is NOT the setup for you. This rear suspension is VERY controlled and stable. The radius arms act like a big-ol' sway bar in the rear. I can take turns one pavement at @ 30-40 mph and not feel any body roll. While crawling however, it flexes well enough to keep me happy. I'd say I have 60/40 flex, with more in the front. I AM toying with the idea of wristing one of the arms in the rear to gain some optional flex though.......
I prefer 1/4 elliptic springs to coils.....but not coilovers :flipoff2: Those might be next...

Yep, the bind on a bronco comes from the radius arms being locked together in the C bushings and horns.
Cool stuff though.
Gordon 03-21-2002, 07:39 PM I Like the 1/4 eliptic shackle mount setup. Is that a crack I see in the radius arm on the first picture right below where the shackle pivot thing bolts on?
