View Full Version : Weber and a header, worth the money?

I've been considering putting a weber carb and a header on for a little while, but never have done it. Is it worth the money? I am only concerned with trail performance (ie, on the rocks) as I tow it wherever I go. Does it really perform much better than a stock one out on the trail? Do they do as well as they are said to on inclines? I'm looking for a little more power and low end torque, without changing cams. I'll probably change cams down the road, but not right now. Oh, and I can't afford a 1.6L swap (felt that one coming). :flipoff2: ~Steve

unless you are gonna modify the weber to be better on the trail dont bother. as far as the header, it increases flow but decreases backpressure which aids torque production. if you open it up too much you will lose bottom end and kill yourself on the trail. if you want real performance gains get a good cam and maybe a sumo head from asian auto parts. i have heard they are dyno-mite!!! headers and webers are for on highway performance not so good for the trail.

everything i've seen and heard says that the stock carb is the way to go on the trail....i'd just hold off for the fuel injection if i were you....can't beat it:smokin:

i ran a weber and thorly header for a while... it's awesome on the street. really made the sammy move... but the damn carb sucked off road... you can adjust them and make them work well. at least that's what i've been told. i ran the combo with 33" boggers, grs2, and 3.73 r+p. the truck could actually pass on the freeway.

it was on the freeway today... course it was secured to a flatbed... so i guess it's kinda mobile. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

damn, haven't been on for a while....anywho...

i bought my sammi with the header, the weber, and the cam in it....sweet as shit on street, only the dude was runnin a glasspack and low end torque sucked. so instead of finding a new/used stock header/carb/cam, i put a universal cat, a 2" turbo muffler, and put softer valve springs in her, and low end was back. as far as the carb goes, i flipped my sammi on one side, completely 90* to level, and it did indeed keep runnin for about six seconds before i turned the key off(in worry i was gonna blow up). this particular carb is not adjustable exept for the idle speed and choke speed. i just worked around my problem, personally, i would have left it stock, cuz she's a trailer queen now.

needless to say, but if you plan on passing emissions, fat chance... i've got my zuk registered at our farm in northern wisconsin so i don't have to pass emissions.
