Still fighting with the edelbrock 1405 and need an opinion.
When it was on the 305 we had to lean it out a bit to get it to run well. Now on the 350 and having major problems and the edelbrock folks are costing me $$ with each "suggestion". They keep leaning it out and to me that does not seem right. On the 305 we leaned it out. It's now on the 350 with edelbrock intake, headers and dual exhaust. To me with my little bit of experience I would think that I need to go richer NOT leaner as the bigger motor, better intake etc should require more fuel not less. What am I missing here???

What are the plugs and exhaust telling you?

Plugs appear to be burning fine. No excess smoke etc from the exhaust.

hey man, the reason they are telling you to lean it out is: when you increase the cfm of a motor it pulls on the carb harder thus making a richer mixture in comparison to throttle plate position. if it is coughing hard right about four barrel engagement that is because your timing is adjusted to far for the increase in fuel mixture and the application of the accelerator pump in the carb. go ahead and lean it until you get a nice light brown mixture on the plugs and then readjust you timing due to the idle difference. You will have to repeat this process several times until you get it back into tune.
