I have a mid 90s sears craftsman compressor, 40 gal, HP?,
I have been searching for rebuild kits for it, anyone aver done this, did it help.

Mine has become very loud and wont go past 80psi, I know these are cheap compressors, but it still might be worth rebuilding if the price is right. Anyone ever done this, did it it help. seems like most of the kits come with a new piston, (teflon i think), but I am concerned about the cyl, do they wear much?
anyone know where to get these Kits, sears says I need to bring it to a service center, yeah right, Im trying to save money?

anyone adapt a sanborn/oil style compressor pump to these compressors?

if you know how many MM the piston is Wiseco could make you one. I dont know what a compressor piston looks like but im sure its the same as any other piston right?

just in case you haven't checked this one: http://www3.sears.com/

may work if you can pull a part number off the comp. I thought about rebuilding my 33 gal. comp. a year or so ago when I worked it too hard and grenaded it. I did find rebuild parts for it on the sears parts site. In the end, I ended up giving it away to friend who needed one and was willing to chance the rebuild. I went bigger rather than rebuild since the same thing would have happened in a short amount of time.

Good luck w/it.

The link above will get you what you need if you can get a part number off your compressor. I rebuilt mine twice. I bought a new compression ring and a piston sleeve. Shipped to my house for about $34. Easy rebuild.

From the Sears website

get the model & serial number before you call

I've got a 5hp 60 gal., the rod on the piston broke, I spent $80 on parts to put 2 new pistons in, and 2 weeks later it broke again.

When my Sears compressor motor died, it was cheaper to buy new than repair.

I have a 60 gal. oil less twin piston with derect drive and it lockes up or brakes a rod once a year. sears has a kit but you realy dont neeed to spent the $55 per side for it. take you barings some place and hve them cross them for some thing other than craftsman. than get to pistons and two sleavs put the compressor back to gether but let me tell you do not lube it I found it will brake much faster if it is lubed (parts are made to have no oil). my compressor has had to be rebuilt about 5 times (every 100 hours of use)

also turn down the pressure switch to about 100psi I put mine up to 125 once and blew the rod into 3 peaces If I can find it I will show you some pix of it.

also you can not have wiseco build you a piston...the piston and rod are one piece and are built to a special weight, and most importanly the shape of the head. if you notice the sleave has a lip on the bottom and the piston has a plastic ring with the same shape to seal at full drop and to compensate for not having a hinge between the piston and rod.
