What are the types of trannys that came in that year. I know there was an auto and I think a 5spd but what are they? Also what t-cases did they use?

Thanks

Auto Mopar 727 w/ special case.
Manual: T-98, T-34,T-35/36. one four speed, most common. 3 five speeds, rare

Wow. Any way to tell like shift pattern or trany identification? The t-case isn't just a model 20

T-case will be divorced 205

T-98 uses a standerd 4 speed shift pattern.
T-34 is an OD. If the stock shift knobis there, the pattern has 4th and 5th reversed.
t-35 is a granny low direct, normal shift
T-36 is a close box direct, normal shift

T-case is an NP 205

Only RELIABLE way to tell the t-34/35/36's is to check ratios by spinning the imput, a PITA if its in the truck. certain casting numbers SUGGEST certain tranny's, but only a ratio check will be positive.

place in fourth position, if 1:1, then T-34, if not:
T-36 low- 6 something to 1
T-35 low 7 something to 1

OK, the T98 has a standard 4-spd "H" pattern, but "R" is right and *FORWARD*

A '73 T'all *might* have a T19 in it, too.. R is right and rear.

The T-35 and T-36 both feature granny 1st gears.. the difference is in how closely spaced the top 4 gears are.

Fugot about the T-19 :(

The T-35 has a lower granny than the T-36, so the T-35 is granny and the T-36 is close (er).
Tom, lets not confuse the poor jeeper. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Now that the tranny and t-case is covered what bolt pattern is on the front of the tranny? Is it anything like a Ford or chebby or is it IH only?

That Mick

IH only

Thanks. On the snout where the though out bearing goes is it a normal size so if I take a chevy or Ford bellhousing and either redrill the holes in it or the tranny will I be able to put on the bearing that went with the fork that goes with that bellhousing.

I just want to know if the OD of the snout is the same as other tranny's or is an IH only size like 1 5/16 or something odd. I think most trannys are like 1 1/4 sounds about right.

So I can use the through out bearing that goes with the clutch and not have to use an odd one. It isn't a big deal it just cam to me and was wondering.

The IH tranny also has a loooooooooooong input shaft, are you thinking of using the tranny with a Chebbie? AA sells an adapter kit.

The input shaft is huge - this is a scout T19 I put in a buddys scout 800. To attach the scout case to a chevy or ford bellhousing you would need to use a steel bell and drill the holes in that. The IH trannys don't have the ears sticking out like a Ford or Jeep case does. They have studs right in the face of the tranny.
