ok i have an 86 f250 with a 351w. it has the module on the fender so it is a dura spark system. any idea if it is duraspark 2 or 3 or any other variation there may be. i am swapping the 460 in so it will not be an issue i dont believe cause the 460 has its own distributer. am i right? or will it be a problem? well this leads to another question. i am putting the 351w in a jeep should i retain the duraspark system or should i swap to a diff distributor so i dont have to be bothered?

Look at the little box on the fender. If it has a blue plastic bushing where the wire's come out it's a 2. Keep it, it's a great system.
And while were at it MATT any module with a blue strain relief on the wires will interchange, ones from old 6 cyl Maverics to old Lincoln's with a 460. All the same.

The only differnce I can find is some retard the timing more than others while cranking the motor.

Not sure why or where it came from, but I have found that some of the boxes will have the purple and orange wire backwards. Just when you plug it together, make sure it's the same color on each side.

If you don't want the duraspark, installing an MSD box is real easy on the duraspark disto.

 Even if you use an MSD you should keep the Duraspark. I modified an extra distributor harness so I could simply plug the MSD in to the distributor without cutting any wires. I left the Duraspark intact just incase. Sure enough a couple of years later a wire on the MSD broke and I couldn't find the problem. I unplugged the MSD from the distributor, plugged the Duraspark back in and drove away. :smokin:

To find out if you have a duraspark II or II just look under the seat in the cab if you have another "box" , computer, you have a III if not you have a II. Pray you don't have a III. Does your 351W have a crankshaft sensor? The bad thing about the III's is hardly anyone know anything about them. I just yanked all of the III junk out of my F250 and swapped over to a II.

I just changed my Bronco from a III to a II It starts but has no power. Anyone?

I got it. It was the firing order. I went by the numbers on the cap. Wrong. Any way the Dura Spark III is gone. It runs much better now.
