I'm on the hunt again for a good cordless impact. I really want an impact wrench, but an impact driver would be nice as well.
If I take an impact driver and put a socket adapter in it and use it like a wrench, am I going to break it any easier than if I'd had a real impact wrench?
What about vice versa?
DeWalt makes a badass 300 or so ft-lb wrench, but I've found out that it is NOT variable speed, which would pretty much write off using it as an impact driver.
What's the best way to go if you want two tools in one (wrench and driver)? Buy a wrench or driver?

What are you going to use it for? If you plan on building deck and running lags all day long get a driver. If you plan on doing mostly nut&bolt type work get a wrench. A regular drill isnt THAT bad for driving screws

Two different animals. Buy the one you will use the most first then the other later on.

I'd like to think I'd use it more for nut and bolt type stuff. But, with all the rage making impacts seem like a drill on steriods that will do anything, it'd seem like I'd try to use it for that as well. I've never used either type, though.
If I was to get a driver and say use it to change tires on my 4 wheeler, is this going to be too much for it? Or is 100ft-lb's out of a wrench not the same 100ft-lb's out of a driver?

I have both the DeWalt impact wrench and driver. The impact driver could take off the lug nuts depending on the situation. It could take them off my truck but it could barely do it. If the lug nuts are rusted to the studs or over tightened then it will not be able to get it off. The impact wrench works great and I can take off around 15-20(6-lug) tires with one battery.
