I read some articles about 4.0 L Cylinder Head Conversion on 258. In my country it is not easy to swap the engine due to registration issues. So Cylinder head swap sounds logical for better performance and fuel efficiency but what about swaping all injection system of XJ together with the cylinder head. Is that possible? Instead of paying $1.500 to mopar injection kit. Can I install stock XJ injection to my 258 together with XJ Cylinder Head? Do you have any experience??
I found a 92' XJ in the junkyard, the engine has no damage and it is still in the junk....

Thx, but this is all about cylinder head swap. It seems easy. But will I be able to install stock XJ injection sys? or Do I need to pay a lot of money to Mopar?

I have done this....I have a 94XJ harness/ECU/Injection/Fuelrail w/a 97 Grand Cherokee Head/Intake/Exhaust Manifold.
Your 92 should wire up fine...its only about dozen wires to wire into the CJ harness. Go to www.cjoffroad.com and search like crazy. Every possible question you have on this swap is their.
One other purchase that's recommended is a FSM or buy the full wiring diagram from and auto parts shop or service place.
You will get a noticable increase in horsepower and the best part your now EFI!!!

You will have to deal with the crank sensor by either machining the bellhousing and fabbing a bracket, or getting the harmonic balancer kit (which is wicked freaking pricey).

Can you not just swap the whole thing, and not tell anyone?

Thx! I am surfing deep in the jungles of www.cjoffroad.com now! A lot of info.
:D
According to my quick research Harmonic Balancer Kit costs around $250, I think I will go with the machining the bellhousing.
Swaping the whole thing is not easy, once a year we need to take the cars ( especially old ones) to inspection and they check everything, new engine must be registered and several tests must be done by university to get approval of compliance and it costs a lot......
Yesterday I made a compression test and the readings are around 155 (+- 5).
As far as I heard new built engine compression should be around 210... Is my engine too tired for such swap?...
:(

i dont think it is too tired but, if you have to take the jeep in every year for testing, wont an older, more tired engine be more prone to failure vs. the one out of the XJ?
i did the mopar kit back in 98 and it was a simple swap and the wiring is already set up for you. i did the head last year and it was a simple swap too. good luck and let us know how it turns out.

thx.
I decided to check the compression of XJ, it will not be so easy because it is still in the junk. What about T-150, will that work with 4.0L ? ( the junk has a broken auto-tranny).
I will definetly go for the head swap very soon but I still have concerns about injection. I need to collect more info... I really hate electronical stuff hightech engines....sensorss..

You might be able to get a CPS and bracket from HESCO http://www.hescosc.com/index.html Ask for Bennie, he will be able to tell you anything that you want about this swap.
