Hey all,
Im looking to mount a motion sensor spot light at the peek of my new shop. However the outside of the shop has the metal siding with the "ripples". So there is really no flat area to mount the light too. Any suggestions on mounting it on the center of the ripple?
I was thinking of using a piece of pressure treated wood, cut out the rear side to fit over the "ripple" and be done with it but would like other suggestions if possible.

Use a piece of "Aztek" or similar "plastic" wood trim boards and do exactly what you are saying. Will look a bit cleaner than a hunk of treated wood sitting there on the side of your building and you can paint it accordingly - or get a colored piece of trim.

Thanks, actually while sitting here at work I figured out a good option. When the building was built they had a piece of metal that they didnt put up at the peek which had their name on it. I kept it for some reason or another. I just realized that it will work for me. I can remove their sticker off the piece and mount the light directly to it. Than the sign will be attached up at the peek like it was originally supposed to be..
Thanks for your suggestion though.

my building is 24x32x10, I had wanted to mount the light at the peek. So that I could direct one bulb towards the driveway and one towards the yard.
However the manual talks about how hight to mount the light. Says they suggest 8ft off the ground. My peek is closer to 15ft.
Anybody else come across this?
Thanks,
Easy. Did this on my old shop, which was nothing but corrugated tin basically... no poles, no beams, etc.
Just get a weatherproof round box. It's got two ears 180 apart. Run ears vertically. Sheetmetal screw to building. Mount light (will almost surely accept a round box, 90% of all motion lights do). Done.

Mount the sensor separately from the light.
One trick I use for wall-pack lights.... drill a hole on the wall where you want the light. Most of these fixtures have a knockout in the middle of the back of the enclosure. Put a connector in, feed the wire through the hole, into the connector, and screw the fixture to the wall. Done.
You can modify the installation with a junction box on the inside of the wall - could even use conduit between the JB and fixture if you like.
