I'm thinking about buying a 00 or 01 dodge cummins. I have heard alot of things about the trannys and that they have alot of problems. But then you talk to some people and they say they have never had a problem with them. So I would like some info on problems that may occur or have happened to you guys. Just give your opinions all info will help. Thanks

What would really help is if you posted this three times in a row...

Also, you need to be more specific so you can get some answers... Are you referring to manual tranny or auto?

the auto would be a 47re...

the biggest problem with them is overheating... they heat up easy, which causes damage... make sure you get the biggest tranny cooler you can find and you shouldn't have many problems if there's not damage to it already...

In 00-01 Dodges they used the NV4500 five speed and the NV5600 6 speed. Both are very good units. Unfortunately New Venture Gear has gone under, so the parts are damn near impossible to find. The auto is a 47re which is based on the best damn automatic tranny ever built the 727. The 47re just has an overdrive unit and all of the electronic gismo's added, IE. Lockup converter, shift points ETC. From the factory they are a good unit, as long as you keep the bands adjusted and the fluid changed at regular intervials. Also keeping in the stock range will help to. The trannies can be built to withstand whatever you want to throw at them, if you are willing to invest. On my 01 I have logged on 160,000 miles on the original tranny. I regularly pull loads, and my truck has a Bullydog stage one chip, K&N filter, and oversized tires. I haven't yet had a problem with the tranny getting hot, and my truck has 3.54 gears. About the only problem that I have with my truck is the damn unitized front bearings Dodge decided would be wonderful on the front of their trucks. But as soon as I get that out of the way, I will be good. Hopefully this answered your question.
