Has anyone run this trail out at JV. I'm heading out there in a few weeks with some friends and I'm looking for some insight to the trail. I know it is hard. What did you think of it? Lots of off camber, flexy, I know they have big rocks. I have run the first half of sledge and have run claw. I know these are supposed to be nothing compared to wrecking ball. Your imput is appreciated.

I know exactly where that spot is on the trail!! Thats a fun little climb. I slide right one time and got wedged on the top side of that rock once though.

Wrecking Ball is fun. A bit technical, not over the top difficult, and a good way to spend a couple of hours.

If you have done Claw recently, you should have no problems with WB. The exit out of Claw just keeps getting chewed deeper and deeper and for 35's is just about mandatory winching or stacking.

If you can find it, take a run up Outer Limits. Not incredibly difficult, but a whole bunch of fun.

I don't know if it is more because of less traffic or I just like running falls, but it is a blast.

The last two weeks we have run Claw, Outer Limits, Big Johnson, Sledge (once in 30 minutes), Jack, and Sunbonnet from the Aftershock side.

WB has been awhile, so my info may not be as accurate as the other trails.

Wish those trails were up here in Northern California.

Okay, how difficult is claw compared to the other trails. I ran Claw without much trouble. but did not have time for other runs. I know it is one of hte shorter runs but are the others much harder? (and hell yes I am running everything next time I get out there)

I just want a refrence point..

The last time I was at JV claw was pretty tame except for the last climb out of the canyon. Never done the big johnsons or arca course but wrecking ball is prolly was the hardest and is still really good. Jack has always been tuff and it still is. Sledge is a little easier than Jack in my opinion. Then you have the others like sunbonnet wich actually does have a couple good spots and aftershock which is has a few interesting spots but no climbs. Never done outer limits either. I can't wait to get back out there!Later:smokin:

that is the "camo" line :D on wrecking ball.

some days WB can take you an hour and other times 8 hours. just depends on what breaks or how stuck you get. very fun trail

CA_YJ - When exactly are you guys going to be down there? The SRC will be down there the first weekend of April. If you are interested and you are down there, lets hook up. We can point you to (most) any trail you are looking to run.

Jason M - In my experience ClawHammer is one of the easier trails down there. At the top, it does get a little loose. However, I have only driven it twice and that was early on while running the trails down there. Quickly spitting out an answer, I would probably put the well known trails in this order of difficulty:
X-rated (Wrecking Ball)
Jackhammer
Outer Limits
Big Johnson (the big crack makes this trail the shit. I love that spot. See pic below)
Sledgehammer
Aftershock
Sunbonnet
Jack Return
Clawhammer
Upper ClawHammer

If it wasnt for the last loose rock climb of Claw, it is really only a 30 minute tune up with 4 or 5 good rigs, and no breakage.
I would list the trails in difficulty as

Upper Big Johnson (hands down the toughest)
Jack Hammer (because there are so many optional lines)
Sledge Hammer (only in this spot if the upper climbs are included)
Wrecking Ball
Lower Big Johnson
Claw Hammer
The rest are about equal.

That's about what I figured. After Claw I was wanting more....

:D

Besides, that was on the 36's and I ran it really easily. I can;t wait to see how the 38's do on the hammers....

Hey Sam I'm going to be out there the same weekend that you guys are. How many rigs do you have going. Here are a few pics of our group that will be out there. The blue YJ is mine. Oh ya and I think we may have one more. Also I want to talk to you about those aerostar coils.

I am not sure how many will show up, but it is looking to be the following rigs at this point. Probably less by the time the trip rolls around. I will be there by Friday early morning.

The crack on Big Johnson is not as tough as it used to be. I don't know whether it is traffic or what. Two weeks ago, my buddy walked a 35" tired TJ right through it with no spotting and zero trouble.

I was expecting a higher level of difficulty according to some that had run it previous to us.

I see a lot have placed WB higher than Jack in level of difficulty.

I would guess that they flop back and forth. The last time I did WB it was a hard trail, but not over the top. Last Sat on Jack, I had much more difficulty, not to mention my total fear of heights and crawling up that razorback on bowling balls. That section of the trail terrifies me to no end.

I luv them hammerz....... :D
I (from what I hear...) am one of the few rigs that did
wrecking ball with IFS. It can be done..... but that was eons ago, or so it seemed. I just can't wait to go back.....

I personally got spanked by the big crack. I twisted it up as seen in the first pic, but my back drivers side tire was trying to do an undercut and I didn't want to break it seeing if it would go. I figured I would be back again to try it.

Now for Ant and Tim, they spanked it no problem. Sort of nice being full width at that point. They made it look stupid. It however made me look stupid, just how I like it. ;) I can't wait to be spanked again.

Well, I am off to Highway 4 to go get some snow wheeling in. Hope I can find a good place to get the Slinky into.
