okay looking for a ford to tow and DD with. iam looking for a f350 or 250 pre superduty but iam leaning towards the f350 because of the straight front axle (dana 60). what years if at all did f 250s come with solid fronts or did that always have the d50 ttb? thanks in advance.

The only pre Superduty F250's with a solid axle was 1979 and older

but remember, putting a 60 under the the front of a 250 is about as easy as unbolting the u bolts, and sliding in the 60..

For a tow rig/DD why does it matter if you have a D60 front? The D50 TTB works great under my tow rig, and it handles and corners MUCH better than our '99 F-250 with a soild D50.

wait till the springs wear out the shackle and spring bushings from the unnatural twisting motion. its great

Why does strength matter on a DD/Tow rig? My front TTB D50 has lived under my truck for 17 years and over 200,000 miles with absolutely no trouble. I tow 15,000lb goosenecks with it almost weekly, and tow up to 20,000lb trailers around the farm, often with it locked in 4wd mind you. I wheeled my truck for several years, I have jumped it, and do 4wd launches at the drag strip on occasion. If you are going to run 35's or less then there is not reason to swap it out(IMO if its a tow rig it doesn't need anything more than 33's).

As far as lifting and springs sagging, etc, it might not be quite as easy as a SFA, but it only requires two more brackets than the SFA lift. My lift brackets came from Tuff Country and have adjustable camber on them eliminating the camber problems that TTB often has. I let my leafs settle for a year or two, readjusted the camber, and its been several years now and the camber is still dead on. The biggest reason I like it is that it handles and corners soooo much better than any SFA truck I've driven, which is important for both towing and a DD IMO.

Maybe you should check out the frame around the front shackles.. mine have hair sized cracks because of the twisting of the spring.. i am definately investing money for a D60 front end.

They are fine, ofcourse I'm only running 2.5" of lift and 33's. I also have pretty stiff springs on the front, so not much flexing is going on. I thought we were talking about tow rigs here

i thought we were talking stock....those 2.5 lift springs eliminate a ton of the problem.......

I sat on the fence over TTB for while... and got the F350. I decided I couldn't go down the tire-cupping, spring-sagging, crooked-steering, holy-sh!t-price-front-end-bushing-rebuild path that my father went down 15 years ago  (and if the TTB50 gets that bad with a 351W riding over it.... I don't ever wanna try it with a diesel :flipoff2: )

You have to decide if you want a std cab or crewcab... can't get the supercab F350 4x4. And no shortbox either.

BTW: you probably don't need a lift with the F350... its well documented that you can run up to a 35-36" tire without anything more than shimming out the front bumper. 33's fit as-is.
