Today's slow, so I thought I'd throw this out there

I'm having a hell of a time finding a 12" clutch setup for my manual tranny swap. I need the pressure plate, clutch disk, pilot bushing, and throw out bearing. Where are you guys finding the parts. I searched through the BB, found a Carquest part number, but my local Carquest gives me the "Huh" look. Napa want's over $400.00 for the setup, but Napa is not sure if they can get the parts, or if it is the correct application. I seemed to be able to put together an order through http://www.partsamerica.com anyone bought parts through PA?

Here are the part numbers through Parts America:

PERFECTION HYTEST RCF429 $52.99 - [Clutch Plate] Reman.; Cover Type: Rockwell; (12"-10T-1 1/4"); w/12" Clutch
CHICAGO RAWHIDE N1166 $32.49 - [Throw-out bearing]
CHICAGO RAWHIDE BR7109 $24.99 - [Pilot Bearing]
PERFECTION HYTEST CA5417 $104.99 [Cover Assy.] Reman.; Type: Rockwell; (12"-10T-1 1/4"); w/12" Clutch

try this part#

Carquest CA-5429 (is that the BB #??)

15-spring, 12" clutch, PP I think, but may have had the disc a well (can't remeber, and forgot to ask).

*MY* local Carquest shows 2 or 4 in stock in the CA area. However, I did also learn that Carquests are "somewhat" indipendantly owned. Some indipendant, some chain. The CA chain is different than the WA chain... but the PN's should be the same.

Their is also a 12-spring, CA-5428, but it is more special order (only 4 in system, all east coast)

~$102 for the CA-5429

~$98 for the CA-5428

let me know if that works for you.

I've never ordered online from 'em, but PartsAmerica is also known was Western Auto, Kragen, and Schucks, and Checker.

I bought my "lifetime" tie-rod from Checker.. and I don't visit there often or get chummy with the counter guys.. so when I bring my tie-rod in once a year (or the next weekend...) bent and mangled and tell them, "I need another" they just blindly, no questions asked, order me up another.

:D

No idea how the last one got bent.. I mean, the housing broke in two, but you'd think the housing took the brunt of the abusive...

Seems to be the ticket, little over $250 for purchasing the parts outright, that's with $50.00 in core charges and all the parts are in stock :rasta:

Thanks Joel

I just went through this procedure. I have a perfection hytest pressure plate horror story. Got the 12" clutch parts you listed above from PA. Read the 2 threads from the Binder Bulletin below for more detail. Get a clutch from the local IH truck dealer, about the same price and the parts work right.
