This is on sale through 3/25 at $179, seems sweet. I needed something bigger to start working on 5/8" suspension brackets and this should fill the bill. Has a lube bottle and drain table, seems pretty beefy at the price. Item #43389

I think you can get it down to about 219 if you play with the #vga part. try 1vga or 0vga.

I just called the local Phoenix store and they have them for $179. However, they are out of stock. I may run by Monday and get a rain check. Anyone want a (almost) brand new 5 speed 1/2" bench mount drill press? :D

BTW, I wonder if that thing would hold up to some light mill type work. Someone mentioned getting an x-y table to put on a drill press. Didn't know they made such things for drill presses (or maybe this is a “make it work” sort of thing?) but it sure would be nice at times...

I think this might work, not too precise but it would give you x-y movement. Maybe OK for cutting slots and such with a carbide burr.

for a good milling table check out a machine supply co. named "ENCO" they got some that the feed is slow enough per revolution that you could use a drill press for milling(about 10 thousanths per rev. Thats gonna cost you about 300 for a good table like that. But if I was going to do mill work on a drill press I would buy a bigger one than that. But when you get much bigger you might as well spend about 800 and get a combo mill/drill.
my .02 I would check the classifieds and look for a old bigger press personally. I got one like the pic and it aint big enough.

i have that cross slide vise and a 16 spd HF drill press. i've yet to try milling on it. but the cross slide vise is superb for drilling more than one hole in the same piece or just drilling period since you don't have to worry about centering the piece under the drill cause you can just use the x-y mechanism to move it. got mine on sale for like $59.99. I got the biggest one they had. think it's the 6" model ....

it's a good drill for the money and has yet to give me a problem. except the litttle knob that lets you raise and lower the table cracked in half the very first time i raised the table  but it's a hf so i expected that to happen. seems like this is on sale the majority of the time.

I have one of those as well, and so far it seems to work very well, The one horse power motor doesn't bog down at all and it runs very smooth and quiet. Just make sure you the the chuck on tight. We didn't do it tight enought at first and though it was all jacked up because it was rattling. It tells you to force it against the table to moun it but on top of that we gave it a few soft taps with a hammer and it's worked great since.
