: so where do I start....
ZooMigo 03-22-2002, 09:11 PM I get my new vehicle tomorrow....
1988 Samurai JX, Hardtop, body is beat up, but a previous owner riced it. Underside is clean with no scrapes, dents or anything.
So the question is, where do I start?
The current tires need to be replaced immediately. I have some 31" ProComp M/Ts I can put on, but I'm worried about the already funky clutch and terrible power. Will this thing pull 31's with stock motor and R&P?
My ultimate goal is to lock both ends, full cage and exo, replacement interior and doors. More interested in flex than lift.
Help me get started on this project guys! :)
BTW, what makes a JX a JX?

squirrelman83 03-22-2002, 10:41 PM Start with a spring-over with YJ springs. It'll flex awesome. Then do a 4:1 and some gears and lockers. Simple combo that will help out a lot. ~Steve

gunracer1 03-23-2002, 10:36 AM i would skip the yjs to start with, just a simple spoa. and a set of 4.16 t case gears.

Hey Thanx
actually, not new to wheeling, just new to Sammis :flipoff2:
Thanx for the suggestion, keep em coming. Im trying to keep my ultimate goal in mind, and go big the first time. Nothing like doing some work, then redoing it when you want to go bigger. :mad3:
...well, actually, I dont have the $$$ for big tires right now, so Im going with the spares laying out behind the shed....
BTW, need to buy a spare, whats the bolt pattern and offset? Same as a TJ, right?

tdavis 03-23-2002, 04:32 PM You mean..
you buy one of these:

And quickly realize, you got rob.. er, no, it's missing a few things, so you start collecting parts like this:
http://www.explorerforum.com/tdavis/zuk/parts.jpg
and hopefully, end up with something good.
FYI, it's a 1991 2wd drive, EFI.
The pile of parts are a 1985 Toy front axle, and a 1996 Toy rear axle. Front has ARB, rear has detriot. Already also have 5.29's gears, and the front has a Warn Birfield Elminator kit in it. the pile of springs are YJ's (6 5 pack's, and 2 4packs) And you also see a zuk transfer case there, to fix the rob.. er, missing parts problem. :)

No, TJ's are 5x4.5, just like YJ's, ZJ's, Ranger's. You'll want 5x5.5, like a Jeep CJ. Not sure of back-spacing that came stock; maybe 3.75"? ~Steve
