I am looking trying to decide on the best way to go for new or used springs for my 55. I am toying with the idea of rearcing and adding a leaf, or getting all new springs.
I am leaning towards new springs, although it is much more expensive, but which ones offer a nice lift and a good ride?

Thanks everyone

I bet the springs sold by JT Outfitters and Man-A-Fre for FJ55s would do you fine, if you didn't get really long shackles. I had the combo of JT Outfitters 2" springs and their extended shackles on my FJ55. The shackles were long and the combination was such that the shackles never left the completely vertical position, which meant a harsh ride on the road. Also, the lift was enough to throw my caster off and make for a skittish ride at 55mph. They did OK off-road.

There's a guy on the landcruisers@tlca.org (http://www.tlca.org/mailman/listinfo/landcruisers) named Dan Kunz who is running Alcan custom springs on his FJ55, and I think he's really happy with them. Talk to him.

Don't go re -arcing and an add-a-leaf. You won't be happy. You will get a real harsh ride from one and both will be a kidney buster. Go new springs, you'll be happier in the long run. Since your in California go Alcan's, heard nothing but good stuff.

i'm real happy with my IRONMAN springs out of AUS. i think specter still sells them and they have two U.S. distributors on there web site.
