what are you guys runnin for tow rigs...i just picked up my third vehicle today, an '87 BII with the 2.9, five speed, 4x4, stock...my question is... can the BII pull a utility trailer(with surge brakes) with my 2200 lb. sammi down the highway? thanks a trillion for all the input guys.

Good luck. I tow with a '93 Ranger 4.0L 5 speed and use a tow bar for the Samurai (no trailer). It is a pooch. Many hills in your area? If there are, forget it. My Ranger really bogs down on the hills and I can usually only get it to do about 45 mph up hills, and my 4.0L has a lot more power than that 2.9L. That trailer adds a lot of weight, too. I'll be getting a trailer after I get a V-8 truck, but if I were to get one now... :nuke: ~Steve

I used to own a B2 with the 2.9.

I wouldn't use it to tow much more than a small (4'x8') utility trailer. Wheelbase is too short and tall, it'll get away from you in an emergency situation.

i would say no, that short wheelbase bronco is going to suck with a trailer. if you have to use it, at least get a sway away hooked up between the trailer and bronco. and plan on a nerve racking trip

Last year I used my 2001 Chevy s-10 ext cab 2wd w/ the 4.3 auto and I pulled my 18' w/ my toy on it and it was perfect. no push/pull or side to side feeling. But I had a decent wheelbase, you are quite shorter w/ a Bronco II. If you hit a strong crosswind or have to make any sudden lanechanges kiss something goodbye 'cuz you'll be :flipoff2:.................ENJOY!!!!!!

I towed my Zuk all the way to Attica for the Melt last year (almost 800mi) on a utility trailer with a TJ. I am not much of a Jeep fan but that damn 4.0l really pulled well. I was shocked. Now wheel base is a completely different story. Handling sucked, nerves were shot, had a blowout near Cambridge OH. But that lil TJ pulled hard even through the mountains. Brakes were impressive too.
You will never hear me talk good about Heeps again...:flipoff2:

I wouldn't do it. A few of my friends had BIIs and they could barely move themselves, much less tow anything. The short WB also will hurt you when towing.

The 4.0l I6 in the TJ is a TON more motor than a 2.9l V6.
