Anyone know where I can find a OEM style wiring harness for my truck? The old one is kinda hacked up by the redneck engineer who had it before me.

Which wiring harness? There are at least 3 main ones on the truck and assorted smaller ones. I doubt any are still available from Mopar. I know the engine harness is not, I just checked it. Might be best to find a good used one, or start from scratch with a Painless setup or something similar. Be aware that if you look for a used one there are many, many differences in the harnesses from year to year and even in the same line but with different options.

I went with a painless harness for mine. It had most every thing ready to be strung. I installed it in about 20 hours and now I don't have all the BS and crap hanging everywere. Now if something goes wrong I KNOW it's not electical. It has to be mechanical at this point. I would strongly reccomend (sp) going that rout. Not only is every thing new you dont have to worry about getting someone elses BS wiring jobs.

im in the same boat with my truck and imo. this is the best route to go if u want to easily rewire your rig. The fuse block is idiot proof and on most circuits you can choose if the accessory gets power constantly or only when ignition is on by moving the fuse no one else offers that and the wiring is held to the fuse block by a retaining screw.http://www.ronfrancis.com/wiringharness.php

Nice link there. Thelbz, have you used one of these harnesses? If so, how is the quality?

it seems i am in the same boat... i need to re-wire my red-neck wired Dodge... its a 1977 Dodge W100 and it seems as if some places are lacking wiring.. some wires dont exist... and some places there are extra wires... has anyone dealt with Painless wiring Harnesses as opposed to Ron Francis? I need a full chassis harness and i have heard good things about both companies however at the moment im leaning towards Ron Francis... thoughts? difficulty level on each? time it takes to do install? its got a 318, just to clarifying id be looking at the Mopar Powered Express Wiring correct? or am i missing something?

i have not personally used one but know people who have used both the francis and painless and seems that the francis is better quality and craftsmanship overall. And the fact they donot use a fusible link what that means to you is http://www.ronfrancis.com/pic/chart-file14.pdf

And from what ive heard its almost idiot proof and they supply u with everything you need dont leave one thing out really but heres the best pic of the fuse block i can find http://www.ronfrancis.com/pic/chart-file14.pdf

I re-did mine myself.

I went through, eliminated the ammeter, running the power directly from the alternator to the battery, installed a new mopar performance harness from the alternator to the voltage regulator, installed a new Ignition wiring harness from mopar, eliminated the fusable link, went through all the under hood wiring, installed a relay from the Key to the ignition module/resistor (those 6 wires that come together), and a few other samll things, including making sure all the wires under the hood were good.

In all it took me about 6 hours. I find most harnesses in the cab are in good shape, its just the wires under the hood that are in various states of disarray.

I personally think it is much cleaner to work through the stock harness than to get a painless kit. Plus, it is much cheaper.

If your stock harness is that messed up, then maybe it would be a good idea to just get another stock harness, and do the minor modifications to it to make it work better. If you cant find a stock harness, PM me, as I should have access to a few of them.
