hi there,

i have a problem,

we were towing my cj6 last time and i noticed that all 4 drumbreaks were smoking hot ...

the only explanation i got is that the 2 "halfmoon" breakspads are touching the drum when driving/towing...

is there a way to avoid this ???

what i can think of...

grind down the spots marked with the purple arrows (those limit that the top spring pull them together further, thus avoiding the contact with the drum)

any other ideas?

to avoid the brake drag you might want to upgrade to scout drums or 72-75 cj5 or cj6 drums.

This seems to always help with the dredded drag.

They bolt on.

Stupid question maybe, but are you sure they were'nt judt adjusted too tight? Or is this a common problem with older Jeeps?

Yes, switch to discs. Here's how.

chuck,

thx for sharing ... however, my cj6 is an odd model, its a s-american version, sporting a STOCK front and rear Dana44 (4,89)

you think your upgrade would still work?

thx

If it's a normal D44 front, it's even easier. You can just bolt on chevy backing plates, calipers and rotors. The rear should also work. If you have 6 bolt flanges it's a direct bolt on, if you have 4 bolt flanges you need to redrill the backing plates
