Ok,
I picked up a 47 CJ-2a. It's got an overdrive on the back of the Dana 18 t-case that replaces the rear out put yoke. It's cable actuated. What the hell is it?

It is most likely the warn OD although I didnt think they were cable shifted.. it does not replace the rear output.. the rear output is on the passenger side right behind the front output..their is normally a cover where the OD bolts on

It is a borg warner Over drive.. works only in 2 wheel drive
cause only affects the rear axil.

These are rare.. I have no idea how good they are. I had one.. Traded it to Mark J20 on this board. He may still have it.

Thanks. Yep. Only works for two wheel drive unless you're running two different sized tires for 4wd.

Sounds like the Studebaker Overdrive I had on my '49 Willys wagon a lifetime ago. It was made by B.W. and had a freewheeling capability in O.D. The overdrive ratio was 30%, pretty steep, but worked well with the stock 5.38 gears, SBC and 7.00/16 NDCC tires. In the 90K miles I drove the Jeep, I had it overhauled twice. Not very sturdy.
regards, as always, jefe

Any ideas on where to get parts or information on one of these?

I took it apart last night, I need to gears for it.

What parts do you need? Planetary gears? They are the same for all B-W ODs. Look for a similar looking OD in a junkyard that specializes in old cars. They came in all sorts of things, Fords, Chevys, Studebakers and of course Willys. I had one in '55 Ford when I was in High school. Broke the planetary three times. (They go rather quickly if they are allowed to run dry on oil or otherwise abused) There's a good writeup on rebuilding one here. There is a guy that hangs out on the Willys Tech mailing list who specializes in ODs for old Jeeps. He does primarily Warns, but I think he has info and some parts for the Husky and Borg Warner units, as well. Send him an email at hermtheoverdriveguy@yahoo.com. He's out of Washington state.

That's not Daryl Wardens rig is it? I know he's got one with a t18/d18 and an overdrive in there somewhere.

Not that I am aware of. This was connected to a T90 with a Spicer 18 on the back of it.

Actually, I want to get rid of this OD. Been too much trouble.
