: Mechanix Wear Glove Replacement
ROKTOY 12-06-2005, 08:45 AM Someone told me some time ago that Mechanix Wear would replace wornout gloves for free if you just sent them in. Don't see any such thing on their website.
Anyone know anything of this policy.....seems liberal to me but who knows
Jay
steveh 12-06-2005, 09:15 AM Jay, call them first, get an RMA, then you can send them in.
MunkMaster 12-06-2005, 05:08 PM what is an rma?

Todd W 12-06-2005, 06:49 PM I`ve got one set that's ready to be sent in, but I think it's cost effective to wait tell I wear out some more.
I`m using the Originals and they are nice because they fit your hands easy and offer some protection but they aren't that thick and mine lasted under a month...
Are any of the other versions a lot nicer
I bought a set of Mpact2s that were like 30 bucks and they still wore out really fast. I wear through the finger tips of them like crazy.
ihojeff 12-06-2005, 07:12 PM Really, they will take them back? I guess I should stop throwing them away. Average time for me wearing a pair out especially if I'm fabricating a lot is two weeks. Will wear the tips right off.

kwrangln 12-06-2005, 07:35 PM I wear em all the time at work, but wont even touch em when I have to do any fabbin. Damn things just dont like heat. Pair of tig gloves is all I'll wear in the shop.
steveh 12-06-2005, 07:45 PM I gave up on them, they just wear out too fast!!
AthlonAJ 12-06-2005, 07:50 PM Quit buying them because they wore out so fast and found a deal on some snug fitting pigskin gloves for $4/pr, bought a ton of them but I'm out again. Just saw Mechanix new Fabricator gloves and would like to give them a try. Look like they're built a lot better for this type of work.

frankenfab 12-06-2005, 08:47 PM The mechanix gloves are made of synthetic leather, whatever that means. Both the palms/fingers and the backs will melt. They are expensive and wear out too fast. Wells Lamont makes identical gloves that are only $9.99 at the local ranch store.

I buy the Wells Lamont deerskin gloves. They fit almost as well as mechanix gloves, do not melt, last longer, and can be washed with soap and water. If I'm doing work on something greasy, I use nitrile.

Todd W 12-06-2005, 09:09 PM Yeah my index finger part are jsut gone and the palms region is wearing out.
I think for wrenching they are fine but any type of fabbing they just burn up.... literally.
Those fab gloves look nice but aren't $15/pair like I got the mechnix ones for..
I have a set of mechanix gloves I use for driving and they work nice for that (the jeep).
dubbyx 12-06-2005, 09:15 PM I was using mine to work on power tools and wore through 4 pair in 2 years... didn't know you could send them in though...
good thing I'm a packrat... do you have to take the electrical tape "patches" off first?
dumblucky 12-06-2005, 10:29 PM I takled to my local Autozone manger and she said she would replace the gloves for the first ninety days from purchase..so basically and many sets as yoiu could go throgu in ninety days
AmigoTJ44 12-07-2005, 05:06 AM Dickes makes a deerskin gloave that is made like the Mechanix glove style with the velcro strap and all. They have either lightly padded palms or non-padded style they hold up a hell of alot better then the mechanix and the nicer padded palms are only like 13.

DickiesŪ High Performance Goatskin Gloves
These are the gloves but I cant seem to find anyone on the net with them

See, I've always thought the Mechanix gloves are pretty good about NOT melting - that's compared to the CLC junk that Home Depot is now selling - the backs of those REALLY melt. Definitely a construction only kinda glove, not at all suited for any sort of metal/fab shop.
EDIT: as for the RMA, I've called before and Mechanix will want a receipt, and the replacement is only for the first 90 days.
MT4Runner 12-07-2005, 06:08 PM Checker/Kragen/Schucks has 2-packs of Mechanix wear gloves right now on special for $20. They have a *bling* light built into the index finger.
ROKTOY 12-07-2005, 11:27 PM Thanks.....Jay
Hosejockey 12-08-2005, 12:25 PM the local auto zone here lets me exchange my gloves with out question
indulf 12-08-2005, 04:59 PM i switched from mechanix to ironclad a few years ago. they last MUCH longer...
300sniper 12-08-2005, 08:40 PM I wear em all the time at work, but wont even touch em when I have to do any fabbin. Damn things just dont like heat. Pair of tig gloves is all I'll wear in the shop.
x2
when ever i am doing any fab work in the shop i allways have my tig gloves on.
Mud in the blood 12-14-2005, 12:03 PM I buy the Wells Lamont deerskin gloves. They fit almost as well as mechanix gloves, do not melt, last longer, and can be washed with soap and water. If I'm doing work on something greasy, I use nitrile.

Those are what I use, CostCo has 3 packs of 'em for $24 from time to time. I stock up when they get 'em in. I have yet to wear a pair out, but they will shrink up and harden a little from the welding het after a while.
knaffie 02-09-2011, 11:13 AM As if it hasn't been said enough times already, I gave up on the Mechanix brand gloves years ago. They wear out way too fast. I've found several suitable replacements that cost 1/2 the price and last much longer.

I suppose it is suitable that you gave up them years ago since this thread is over five years old.
The original MPACT 0.5 were okay, but the newer style is higher quality.

A spammer bumped the thread.
knaffie 02-09-2011, 03:26 PM I'm guilty of not looking at the post dates. I was just reading the active topics.
B.A.R.K 02-10-2011, 07:07 AM Since this thread was brought back from the dead. Does anyone know of a way to replace worn out Mechanix gloves today? I have quite a few pairs with no finger tips. Could I buy another pair and use that receipt for the RMA?
Markee757 02-10-2011, 08:43 AM I use Plainsman gloves: http://www.amazon.com/Plainsman-Cabretta-Leather-Gloves-Large/dp/B002BP48YG
Fit like TIG gloves with out the big wrist guard. Love em
jam0o0 02-10-2011, 08:56 AM why would you buy mechanix gloves? they last exactly one use for me. i guess if all you do is turn wrenches then they would work great. but for anything hot they don't work. and they cost WAY too much.
i only get the all leather gloves with the index finger seam on the INSIDE. anythign else just melts/catches fire.
Todd W 02-10-2011, 05:29 PM HF Gloves normally 4.99
last I saw ere 3.99
Exactly like mechanix.
They are not for moving firewood, welding, plasma cutting, etc.
For wrenching they work perfect.
For usage outside their intended they work but not for the long-term.
I buy 5 or more at a time when they are on sale.
At $25 or $15 for 5 pairs can't beat it. :smokin:
247pia 02-11-2011, 07:53 PM Mechanics gloves plain suck. I swear by the "Ringers genuine leather insulated" gloves. http://ringersgloves.com/prod-ms.php
some zilch 02-11-2011, 08:08 PM doing very light/union/municipal wrenching; i get a week at best out of a pair. i loose the material in between each finger............
