: Crazy idea to convert rear XJ 44 to FF / discs?

So I'm building this 44 for my front, and I am getting all hot and heavy with different hubs, spindles, discs, etc etc etc trying to find the optimal setup with FT Chevy knuckles and 5 on 5.5 Ford hubs, which will all work with my HP housing.

Anyway, the stock componentry from the 44 I'm building is 5 studs from the knuckle out, and it's an offset, non-equidistant stud pattern. I'm building the new one with the standard waggy- and Chevy-style 6 stud hardware, so the old stuff is now facing obsolescence.

So I'm sitting on the 5 stud brake hardware, and I have this crazy idea that I might, follow me here, MIGHT be able to bolt 4 of these holes onto my XJ 44 rear end (and then drill out the other hole on the housing end), which uses that strange 4 bolt pattern, and then convert over to discs and full floating happiness. I already have the spindle, hubs, and caliper bracket etc., and all I'd need to make the thing work is some new axle shafts. Well, I'd also need to work out a disc brake setup, but I figure that would be ok, maybe with Lincoln calipers or something.

I just tried to search here for info, and I googled some stuff, and I can't find anything.

Has anyone tried anything like this? Am I high?

Thanks
Bob

Nate,

I would love to go up to Carnage with you now. However, I have to go to a party right now with a friend of mine, after which we will, incidentally, be doing a little spindle/shaft fitting work of our own. She's good with that type of work. So uh, thanks, but no thanks. :flipoff2:

PS My brain always runs a little hot. That's what  is for.

If you want to - it can be done. A lot of work though.

Thanks for the reply. Guess it's time to start measuring. If I could do this with my Ford hardware, that would be THE COOLEST.
