Hi folks, I was thinking of buying a 1997 Wrangler with the 4 cyl. and auto trans and swapping in a gm 4.3 vortec. I would have the entire donar truck. Has anyone done this? Or possibly with a GM V8? What problems will I have with the wiring, etc? Thanks for your help! Dave

Too make this worthwhile you would need to go to a V-8, otherwise you would be ahead time and money to sell the 4cyl Tj and donor truck and buy a 6cyl TJ. I guess it might be worth it to run a 4.3 backed by a GM granny low truck 4 speed all moved a little forward to gain some driveshaft length.

Stick with the 4.3 I sold my last Jeep with a 350. It was nice but constantly had cooling problems with it. I was able to get it under control but it wasn't worth it. Go with the 4.3 thats what I am building now and haven't heard anything but good about it.

It depends if you want your dash and check engine lamp to work. You will never make it work with a Chevy plant in there. If you go with a Mopar 5.2/5.9 Magnum engine, and wire it up with a '96 or newer harness, you will have the ability to use the CCD bus that drives the instrument cluster.
