: 1600 starter question
scwafish 03-24-2002, 07:16 AM I'm getting real close to having my rig running, probably only 20 hours of work or so left. One of the few pieces I'm still missing is the starter. I'm gonna get a rebuilt Bosh unit. My question is ...do I need anything else:question: Are there any shims or spacers involved or does it just bolt to the bell and thats it? I never had it together so I've got no friggin' idea
nate691023 03-24-2002, 08:00 AM which tranny are you using???
did you by the adapter plate?:D
squirrelman83 03-24-2002, 08:54 AM He has a toy tranny and sos adapter. ~Steve
scwafish 03-24-2002, 11:56 AM I'm using the stock kick bellhousing and flywheel, the only adapter is between the bell and the tranny.
bobaki 03-24-2002, 01:21 PM the 1600 starter you got with the engine, unlike the coil it looks like a starter......................?:D
call me
bobaki 03-24-2002, 01:31 PM also there is a thin steel plate between the engine and bellhousing..:D
Tusker 03-24-2002, 05:08 PM Only 20 hours to go? Wohooooooo! Maybe we won't be hiding Easter eggs under that thing after all :D
That Bosh unit aught to bolt right up without any shimming. If you call Smother's, they will put a hold on your parts so they are there when you go by to pick them up too.
Are your drive shafts in and the shock mounts and perches welded on? If so, let's go FLEXIN :p

Coil? What coil? Doh! I have looked through the boxes, which is getting REAL easy these days (its all back on the car), and there isn't a starter in there, you got it at the Bobaki crib? I'll call ya.
also there is a thin steel plate between the engine and bellhousing..
That I have! I even rembered to put it in.
Tusker-Shafts are in, the perches and shock mounts are tacked.
I've got just a couple more efi wires to figure out (I'm calling Brett tomorrow) and then I need to look at your rig to figure out the last few that run up front. Also need to plumb the filler neck and the two return lines. Also have to put in a speedo cable for he efi sensor. A few other minor details (heater hoses etc.) and its.... SHOWTIME

No problem. Truth be told I had Trail Tough rework the harness (I SUCK AT ELECTRICAL) and they did a sweet job. Well worth the dough. To install it is a still a fair amount of work, but WAY less than doing it from scratch. There is about a zillion other things that I had to do, mounts for everything since I ditched the front end, computer mount etc. but it is coming out pretty sweet. It might look a little too "fast and furious" for the old-schoolers out there, but I figured I'd get into the spirit of the ricer aftermarket scene.
I'm really stoked that I'm moving a little north in May and there is no smog inspection in the new hood!
scwafish 03-25-2002, 09:10 PM Rude-when its ready I'll let everyone on the bbs know and we can jam up together for a break-in party.
