Questions for the 14 Bolt FF users....
1) For the hub nuts... what should they be torqued back down to when reassembling the hub section to the axle? Or is this just one of those tighten it down until it feels right kind of jobs?
2) This would be my first graces in the FF world, all other experiences have been with SF axles... So it would seem that the hub section of the 14 bolt would need to be greased in order for the bearings to continue to function properly. Question would be as too how much grease would be necessary... Should the bearings simply be removed and packed, or should the outer lining of the hub section be filled with grease?

That's it for now...Thanks

Just pack the bearings...adding more will just make a mess...the bearings run in the gear oil anyway so it dosen't matter too much. While you have the things off you might want to replace the seal. The bearings are set by torquing the hub nut to 50 ft*lb and backing it off enough for it to line up w/ one of the slots in the lock ring. Then you tighten the jam nut down to 65 ft*lb. The axle shaft bolts go to 115 ft*lb.

How does the bearings run in gear oil? There is an outerseal on the outside of the hub section and there is an axle seal I thought seperating the gear oil from the hub section. If it runs in gear oil I thought that you weren't supposed to mix grease and oil together. I guess there is no innerseal on the hub section, but I thought that those were grease pack bearings and not gear oil based.

Being gear oil based makes thing much easier.

Thanks.

I don't pack em with grease, I just pre lube the bearings with gear oil and fill the hub before I install the outer bearing.
Then I make sure that the diff is topped off.
