Hey all, havent posted in a while, just been lurking.

However, on my k5, I have been running a tad hot. When I am higher in the rpms in gears 3 and 4, it starts to get a bit hot. I have a waterpump and new thermostat. They will be going in this week. Also, now my fan is loose, and is hitting the fan shroud at all times. I kno I need a new fan, but is there anything else I should look out for? I dont mind replacing stuff.

TIA

if your fan has play your water pump bearing is prob gone which if that is the case change it now before you cook your motor or put the fan through the rad.

I see your sig line said you have a cooling leak that you can't find. Have you found it yet? That might be a starting point.

on the coolant leak, maybe you just cant find it cuz you have a bad head gasket? is it leaking on the ground or is fluid just disappearing?

I did a compression test when I first had the leak and couldnt find it and it turned out to be clear across the board. I found the leak last night. It is coming off the lower radiator hose. I didnt see it cuz it was dripping slow, and on to the mounts and under the bumper. When I have more light tomorrow I am gonna check it out.

As far as the wp bearing, what exactly is required? As i said, I have the new wp, but what, if any, other parts will I need. This is my first mech fan setup. I came from the world of electric fan'd vw's

Thanks guys

get a new thermostatic clutch assembly to put a 7 blade suburban tow fan on, no more problems unless your rad is plugged.My.02

the wp bearing is in the pump and will be fixed when you change it. you said the fan moves when you grab it does the pulley move with the fan when you push forward and back if so its the wp. if the pulley says put and the fan moves on the end of the shaft its your thermostatic clutch

Well, it looks to be the thermostatic clutch. Do I buy that and a fan as a whole new assembly or are they separate?

you buy just the clutch there is bolts on the front of the fan that seperate it. make sure you buy a HD one or the parts guy will try to sell you one for a car and there a piece of sh*t
