Thinkin' about a spring-over with 36's and swappin' out the 27A with a DANA 30. Any thoughts? How many beers could it take to build this and how much ice in the cooler?:flipoff2: :barf:

It's not a build up if your still asking about what to do...

You dont want to swap the 27 for a 30, the 30 still sucks. It's not horrible, for small tires that is, but pick up a set of waggy 44's. i saw a nice set for 300. I wouldnt do all the work that you will have to do, to swap in a 30. Do it right, and get some better axles, atleast for those size meats. And think what your doing through, there will be alot more work involed then what your thinking, make sure you can afford what you want to do. SEARCH, and your build when ever you start will come together much nicer. Also, this should be moved into newbie jeep section.

The 30 isnt all that bad an axle. Yes, its no 44 or 60, but it will hold up to 35s ok. You will break it especially if you have the smaller ujoints. Get the vacume diconect axle and do one peice shafts on it. You can truss it, basicly do anything you want to it, but you said cheap. And that wont be all that cheap. And you will be polishing a turd. Steering is expensive and no real hi steer option, other then $$$ parts. Find a Waggy for sale and scrap it, and then take the axles. You will find an entire Waggy for fairly cheap sometimes.

The 27 vs 30 are so close to equal you should just convert the 27 to disc's or go bigger. I wouldn't run anything bigger than 33's on a 68 CJ unless it was heavily modified.
Disc brakes conversion will take two or three case's of beer. For axle conversions you should set up an account for home delivery of kegs.
