I have tried everything from dual fans trick radiators. shrouds extra venting etc. my EB over heats and pings like a bitch in 'heat'. What to do? 302 stock rebuild. btw I checked the block for cracks, none found.

Hey chihauha 33, what about the timing ? and yes it affects more than just pinging, it can have an impact on temp too

I know seems like a no-brainer. I have played timing games till I am sick of spinning the damn thing. If I retard it no power, and it still over-heats. Funny thing it never had a problem, till one day while driveing along.........btw the motor is newish balanced etc. I even put on a high volume WP last spring! My last thought is some kind of internal EGR demonic thing. Driving me crazy and making me leary of taking the damn thing any where. And it is one trick pony other than this!
Thanks!!!

The high volume pump could be part of your problem. If you have the stock 3-row radiator, the coolant passes through so fast it may not have a chance to cool enough.

I have a 4-row radiator in my EB with a mildly built 302 and the temp never exceeds 190 even in the summer.

Just my .02 :)

4 row radiator in my bronco too. overheated before and after the WP. Not to feel bad.....I have had every 'genius' I know look at this. I am at the point of swapping the motor. Anyone want to buy a New 302 that overheats for no known reason? Again-- I am so frustrated what he f**k could be causinging this?!?!?

Are you sure you put the wtp gaskets in the right way?
What thermostat?
Is it up side down?
Is there debris stuck in it?
Are you sure?
intake by pass in rear of heads?
Are you running a heater?
If not how are you'r lines run?
what belt typ do you have?
Is it runnung correct dir for flow?
what year eng?
what year timming cover?
Left or right pump inlet?
Are you running WWWWAY to lean?
What was done to the new mtr?
Did they coat the inside of the block?
Is there gasket material in the wtr passage?
All this can make it over heat.

Do you have plugged exhaust as well?
to lean air fuel?

Just take out the inner fenders, that drops the temp like 15-20 degs

My ol' pos 74' Bronco w/ an old wore out 302 runs hot to ! "When
it runs, haha " ! No shit mine runs hot even in the winter w/ the heat on . I have perforated the hood and inner fenders w/ a 2"
hole saw and it just don't budge . A late model efi swap along with a fat ol' 4 or 5 core rad. will prolly' help bunches ! Sorry for
not going to chit - chat . :flipoff2:

With that radiator/high flow pump you may want to drop a lower temp thermostat in there. Also, did you get the high-flow thermostat? If not, some people drill holes in the regular ones to take advantage of the extra flow.

Also, you may want to put an aluminum intake on there. While you have the intake off yoyu can check and make sure the water passages aren't clogged.

i have fixed many of these. there is many conserns that havn't been adressed. unfortunatly i own a shop and i would have to charge you. i have fixed many of these with injected 302 swaps and even injected windsors. i'm not plugging my shop just letting you know there is people out there that can fix it. email me if interested cause i'm never on this section of the board.
