: Pinion play

so after i grenaded my rear driveline, i was lookin around and noticed that i ca turnmy pinion back and forth 1 and 1/10 full turns around before it catches and stops, i repeat, the fawker goes around a full turn of the pinion plus some. is it toast?:p

In a word, yes. Might be serious, might not. But you are definitely missing some teeth or splines or something in there. Possibly spider gears or locker if you have one.

you should have someplay in it but not that much. It depends on what gears you have also. I have 4.88's and I can turn my Pinion about 1/10 of a full turn before it engages, maybe less than 1/10th.

yeah, if you can turn the pinion one whole turn before it engages, something is toast. it might not be the r&p, just spider gears/locker, but something is not right.

3.23 gears, stock open diff, actually still got great traction and didnt have problems hookin up in the snow last time i drove it. the pinion play i thought was excessive, maybe has something to do with drowding it multiple times and never slingin new 90 weight, had it for almost three years and still have never pulled the diff cover on it.
