I have a 76 F100 D44 front with flat tops which I did the conversion my self a while ago.. now I want chromos since I keep brekaing shafts but im running into a problem... since the chevy and the ford outers are the same length and spline why do I need the chevy outer stub versus using all ford...

again I should know this since I did the conversion but I dont:mad3:

FYI I did have to do a trail repair after breaking one of the stubs and I put a ford stub back in.. it got me off the trail but now I can get the damn thing off.. is this the reason and what is the difference between the two stubs that would make this problem occur.. the ford stub is grabbing the knuckle on the way out which wont allow it to pass

thanx

chevy stubs are a little longer, 9 15/16", Jeeps are 9 23/32" or 9 15/16" and fords are 9 17/32, and some are 9 23/32"
http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/flatop_knucles.html give the chev and jeep lengths and http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/images/Dana44axleshafts_Ford.gif gives the ford lengths

yours was 9 23/32" chevy that are 9 15/16" are 7/32" longer than the ford
(9 30/32")
