well i got my 460 today. its pulled from a 77 lincoln and has emissins. i will be removing all the emissions as my truck is exempt. i am wondering what this motor will make for hp without the emissions stuff, headers, flowmasters and the holley projection unit i have. any ideas? started it up and it was so silent you woulda thought it had a 4 banger. was a damn good buy for $200.

First thing to do is go and get a Cloyes replacement timing chain set for a pre '73/'72(when they went to net HP from the old gross HP), the emission 460's had the timing of the cam shaft retarded to allow for it to pass the sniffers from the factory. return the timing to the straight up cam index. a retarded cam pushes the power band higher up the RPM range. It also sacrifices low end power and torque.

Nope, sorry. I'd just try Napa or any good parts house.

most all aftermarket timing sets will have a keyway to set the timing at 0 degrees or a couple degrees advanced and retarded. I pulled my 460 from a 76 lincoln and it was gutless in stock form. After swapping on an edelbrock performer intake and mild cam it made a huge difference. A few months later I bumped the compression up to almost 10:1 and it really came alive. It went from barely able to spin 33's in stock form, to putting my 38's up in smoke without much struggle.
