: Relocating TJ gas tank

I've done a search, (I'll admit I'm not a computer expert) but I could not find anything where anyone else has done this.

What I'd like to do is move the fuel tank up, taking advantage of the added space over the frame after doing a body lift.

Thanks everybody for the help:)

It's in the FAQ (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=376900)

Yes, I saw those, but they all relate to moving into the tub. I was hoping someone had just taken advantage of the couple of extra inches you get above the frame after you lift the body (spacer lift) I can probably figure it out, but I didn't want to reinvent the wheel so to speak. I also know there are many more talented than me!

Usually people incorporate that difference into a custom skid. That way you can use the same mounting holes but the sides of the skid are shorter, effectively raising the tank.

Are you moving it for more ground clearance or wheelbase stretch?

I did just what you are asking about before I stretch my jeep and lift the tank further up into the tub. I had my tank lifted 3" (I had a 2" BL). Just cut the rear cross member, move it up and modify the skid plate to fit, what else you want to know?

Kilby's TJ skid plate moves the tank up one inch, I believe the YJ skid does not go up at all

1. I'm wanting to get more ground clearance, I have 5.5 inches of lift, 35's

2. I'm thinking of wheelbase stretch in the future

3. I assume the cross member you suggest cutting is the one just above the tank. If you remove the whole thing, what are the consequences for frame strength? Do you need to remove the whole thing, or just clearance enough for the tank to go past it? Have any pics?

I think this is something like your looking for this guy is named Yaffy and he is now in NOVA but he cut out the crossmember and part of the floor under the rear seat, boxing it out with a new floor then finished it off with a skid right on the frame rails. Looks good. http://onclickpix.com/31341.jpg

If you are doin the WB in the future, im not sure you can move the stock tank up enough, even with a large body lift, to clear the chunk if it will only have 5.5 inches of lift. I would go with the kilby for now if it will be a while before you do the stretch, but if sooner than later, dont waste your money... I would just wait and do a fuel cell or custom tank when you stretch it. I am currently running the stock tank in the stock location in my tj with 4" and 35s...i drag the tank skid everywhere but i have never gotten it hung on anything it couldnt just slide off of.

blue torch fab makes a stretch kit fuel cell that mounts under the tub. go to there web site and look it up in the forum section.

That's funny. Poison Spyder sent me the CJ corners also for my TJ. It seems like everything I order through them gets screwed up and sent to the wrong adress. The wait is worth it though.
