I am looking into a fj55 in my area, here is the scoop:
Late 72 model, with all original running gear. There is not a single aftermarket part on it. He said he cut out the notorious places for rust and did new metal. It has a new headliner and some other small crap. The rear window motor doesn't work, and there is a very small dent on the rear. He had the crappiest place in town (Maaco) spray it original green/white after his resto job.
I think I can pick this up for eight or nine hundred. I plan on doing a chev 350/sm420 a spring over axel with fj80 axels and signaw power steering. Is this a good deal, or should I spend it on a rig partially done?
Thanks,
Newbie

Well if he really did cut the rust out and reweld (check with a magnet). It sounds good to me. You don't really care about the drivetrain and axles/brakes... Is this gonna be a wheeling rig? If so there are a few hulks around here that you can pickup cheap... especially pre-75. Since your gonna slaughter the pig anyway... I'd rather see this pig go to market... but thats my my 2 cents.

If you decide to take a pass on this rig could you give me the guy's contact info?
Thanks,
Brian
Sound pretty good to me- I paid 1200 for mine: but that was for a pretty clean body. Oh- the rear window can be easy to fix- there's a plastic gear in there that is notorious for breaking.
As one pig owner told me before I started my project, "expect to spend 5 to 7,000 $, if you're going to do it right..." I thought I could do it for much less than that- but so far, I am on track with his estimate. I've been nickeled and dimed to death on a bunch of little things- and I'm not even near being done with it. But then again, I am in California, and things are more expensive here... And looking back on it, I could have done it cheaper...
All in all- it has been an awesome experience, and I would not trade it for anything. I have found that pig owners are a rare breed, and so far they have all been very cool, and very helpful. And there's nothing like the feel of an old wagon- the hum of an old transmission- and the rumble of a small block chevy...
I say get it if you can. Shoot me an email or whatever if you want any info or whatever....

thanks for the input guys, I will let you know if I pass on it. But he is asking 2500 and keeping it a secret is integral to my talking him down. I will let you know if I can't.
Thanks

Hey "missingmy84toy", a friend of mine here in Vancouver is looking hard at selling his '72(i think!?) 55, and is asking $1500. for it. It has a V6 vortech, and is pretty solid. He needs the money for school. Let me know if you're interested and I'll pass on his number. Vancouver is just a couple hours drive from Seattle.
Cheers!

Can you include me in on that information? I may be interested in that FJ55 and I live in Hillsboro.
Thanks,
