I currently have a '73 fj40 with 4" lifted springs in the rear & 2.5" plus shackle reversal in the front. I am in the process of a frame up restoration. Just reinstalled rear axel. Finally putting it back together instead of taking apart. I run 35" tires and being that I just put new rear QTR panels on it I don't want to cut them. With this set-up will i rub. Will a 1" body lift help? If I do it does a 1" body lift change things like the sterring column posiioning?

Thanks,
Greg

35s' are gonna rub unless you cut the rears.......don't know if the body lift will help or not. I'm not a big fan of body lifts though.....

Oakley,

you are going to have to cut the panels as every one says. I would suggest, SOA or SUA, to flip the rear springs and then cut the tub whatever was needed to clear.

I had a 2" body lift with 4" rear springs and 2.5" lift in the front.
I would rub on the inside of the tub when fully crossed up, but it was not something I noticed, until I was doing PM work for the next run. Also my tub was cut when I bought it.

I'm in the process of a complete drivetrain/suspension change and I couldn't figure out if I wanted the body lift or not, so I set and tack welded all the drivetrain in with the tub in stock position, then raised it to 1" then 2" postition and checked for clearance problems and fit. I decided that a 1 inch lift is right for the drivetrain and placement I'm using. I now have to lift the tub back off and fully weld all of the components.

As for the steering system changes what kinda steering sytem are you going to install? I run a saginaw PS and with the 2" lift I had to do column work and I went to the1 inch lift I again had to do some column work. But if you can do a frame off restoration, the column work is cake.
