What size socket do I need?

Thanks,

There are at least 2. One with 4 tits inside the ring (like I have – 85), the other has 6. IIRC, they are both 2.5". To be safe (and save a trip) I would look inside before leaving to pick one up. Mine was about $28 at Checker.

I think he's talking about a socket for the pinion nut not a hub socket. I don't know what size it is.

Doh!!! :rasta: How did I read pinion and think "hub"? Sheesh!!! I'll go away now... :(

I can'y remember for sure if it's 1 5/8 or 1 5/16 but the shitty part is the socket has to be turned in a leath to make it fit.

To make up for my earlier stupid reply, I went out and measured it for you. It's 1 5/16 best I can tell (I don't have a socket that will fit, mine are too thick in the wall).

It's 1 5/16. A standard socket will not work. I turned mine down on a lathe but you can grind the heck out of the outside and make it fit. These are torqued to 150 ft-lb and are difficult to get off. I made a bracket that wraps around the and bolts to the yoke with a long bar on it. Sometimes my 1/2 air impact will remove them, mostly you will need a long breaker bar with a pipe on it.

what front ujoint series are you all running?
does that make a difference for socket clearance?
mine is a 1330 but I dont recall having to pull the yoke.
I know my rear axle I have had off a few times fighting a leak, common parts store ?Westward? socket fit that 1410 yoke

I have 1310's front 1330's rear. They both require the thinner socket. I've never taken off a 1350 or 1410 yoke on a 60 but I hope to test it out later this year.

how much does the socket need to be turned down? What is the final diameter(outside to outside)

Not that it will help you but on a 14FF with both 1350, and 1410 a normal socket will fit.

Since you brought it up, do you know what applications had the 1410 on a C14FF? I expect it's the high GVWR chassis cabs, and maybe some of the heavy vans? I know where to find the D60/D70 yokes, but no hard info on the C14FF yokes...

I just bought one from my local driveshaft shop. I overpaid by a lot, if I had listened to everyone on this site and called jesse at highangle I would have saved about $50 on the yoke. I also would have gotten u-bolts instead of straps.

I will be doing my front shaft soon(D60). If you have P/Ns or vehicle applications for a 1410 D60 yoke that would be nice.

I replaced 1310 yokes with 1350 yokes on a dana 60 and a 205 (front and rear.)
I can vouch that my 1-5/16" socket would not fit the 1310 but fit the 1350 just fine.

It's a 1 5/16 socket that fits it. Yes you gotta turn the OD down for it to fit inside the yoke. I got one in the shop I'll mic it for you today after I'm doing the 60 ARB. I DO KNOW that my 1 5/16 socket WOULD NOT FIT in the 1350 yoke on this 60 unless it was turned down in my LATHE. I do know with the 1410 yoke I'm putting on (High Angle Driveline Made) it fits with plenty of clearance. I don't know of any applications that a 14 Bolt came with the 1410 yoke stock. Next Time I talk to "Jesse" I'll ask him he will know.....Later Guys-Tim

My "modified" socket measures out at 1 11/16" diameter but it's loose in the yoke. 1 3/4 - 1 13/16 should fit. I think 1 7/8" would be too tight but I didn't have anything handy to check it with.

I've seen the 1410 yokes on the high gvw trucks and some of the school busses I work on. The trucks are usually the converted cab and chassis trucks with custom bodies such as the Asplundh trucks with the chip receiver boxes on them.
