: 4.2 to a 4.0

I have a 4.2 (258) and i want to put in a 4.0 instead. Doesn't have to be an injected engine, either one will work. Can anyone tell me what year 4.0 engines will bolt up to my original 3 speed transmission?

Why not use the crank and rods out of your 4.2 in a 4.0 liter block (91 or up would be better) and have a 4.7 stroker. Use a search engine and try stroking a 4.0 jeep. there is a good page out there but I can't remember the address.
