I'm getting a 32 passenger bus for a cheap deal. Want to convert in into a rv/hauler. What type of insurance do you guys that have them run? What would be a good gas or diesel drivetrain to put into it?Currently has a smallblock chevy and sm465 tranny. What about a 2sp rear?

A buddy had one, and he had it liscenced and insured as an RV, pretty cheep and no troubles from Commercial law enforcement. A really good powertrain would be a 5.9 cummins with an allision auto, or a 6-7 speed syncho mid range truck tranny. Or maybe even an 8.3 cummins with a 10 spd roadranger.....then again I like shifting gears. My buddy had a 366 with a 4 spd allison and it worked well, but 62 mph was wide open down hill with the over rev light flashing on the dash.
thanks I have a few 366-454 engines I have thought about using. Was looking into the 8speed and few other truck type trannies to use also. Might even got with a allison if I can find one cheap. Looking at a dt466 right now that is a fresh rebuild in a truck my friend has bought for parts. I just want to have something to keep up with traffic with a trailer and not eat me out of house and shop on fuel.

That means you have pretty much ruled out every gas engine out there capable of hauling that thing around. Even if you put a diesel in it, you better plan on keeping it a long time to even think about getting half the money you're gonna drop into out of it.
