: Toy Tcase's
ammelk 10-30-2001, 01:08 PM Ok, i've been doing some reading and searching, Does anyone have a good source for information, I'm going to go w/ the complete Toyota drive train. I just don't know if I am going to go w/ the dual tcase setup(s) or one of the 4.?:1 setup(s)
the price by the time I would be done would be close to the same, Unless I find a killer deal, But I also don't know what is involed, the tech part doesn't bother me, I just dont'..well can't make my stupid mind up, and w/ my dead line to get a project finance proposal to the wife.(the old my money is her money, and her money is not mine. ).
ok back to work,
Thanks guys.

I Lean 10-30-2001, 03:24 PM If you've got the space to do it, go with the dual setup. For one thing, you get a lower overall low range (5.2:1) than with either of the low-range gear sets, and you get to keep the option of the stock 2.28:1 when you want it. You can always stick a low-range gear set in the rear 'case later if you feel the need.

Okay..... Getting back on topic here...
Go with the duals. Here's why:
5.2:1 vs. 4:1 or 4.7:1
Driveline is only about 6.5" longer
You can go with a low-range gearset later to be at 228:1 (assuming 5.29 R&P) without redoing driveshafts... again.
You get 2WD low (only 2.28:1). Put the first stick in low, leave the rear at 2WD high.. You're at stock toy low for tight turns in 2WD.
It's CHEAPEST! From AllPro, the AA dual case adapter is ~$400 to your door. Find a rockin' good deal on a Toy 'case and you're wheeling ~130:1 for $500!
I got bored, so I figured I'd come back and post some more sheet in the 'other' japapnese wheeling vehicle board:
SUMO 6.1:1 Gearset: 6.1:1 ratio
$1,025-ish price
Unproven gearset
Weak transfer case to put them in
No driveshaft mods
No driveTRAIN mods
MARLIN "ULTIMATE CRAWLER" (Dual Toy cases, 1 stock, 1 4.7:1 gearing) 10.71:1 ratio (!)
$500(see my 1st post) + $650 for 4.7:1 = $1150
Strong, V8 proven case
Gears run over the Hammers & so on for years
Reqires new driveshafts
Adapter to fit to engine and so on...
So what it boils down to is:
If you are going to run Toyota (or Dana) axles, think you might want to run a whole Toy drivetrain someday, and want a 10.71:1 ratio, and don't mind hacking up a Zuki, go Toyota.
If you want to stay with the Sammy engine and axles, think the Sammy case will hold up, and will be happy with 6.1:1, go this route.
Oh, and the ultimate crawler setup IS useful. I've ridden in one (gimme a year and I'll have one, it's just the $$ during school) and they ROCK. I never thought I would need something that low, until my bud climbed a 60* hill at idle with 36's.
The jeep guys would just shake their head when he parked it up against a tree, and got out. At idle, it VERY SLOWLY putted along, digging 4 36" Swampers into the ground.
Even the little Jap 4-bangers will NOT die in that low of a gear.

I've decided to go w/ the dual tcase's for now. I like th upgrade ability of the case's to the 4:to something gear set's, and I still get 108:1 w/ the 5:29's and for now I think that will do unitll I learn to drive better..
Thanks for the info..

Ray Lafreniere 11-02-2001, 06:24 PM I like the dual Toyota cases too, but how short can you go with your rear driveshaft? With my drivetrain right now (3.8L/TH350/'Yota Xfercase/'Yota axles) my rear CV shaft is only 21" long. Can I afford to cut it down to 15"?

Just letting Suzuki enthusiasts know about a new part I have available. The is the RingeR a billet aluminum adapter that bolts in-between the Suzuki 1.6 liter engine and Toyota 4 & 6 cylinder manual transmissions (Turbo included). The RingeR gives you the advantage of a stronger transmission and t-case(s), along with the ability to increase crawl ratios to a mind boggling 677 to 1 if one was so inclined (insane). Slight modifications are needed for the clutch and throw out bearing, but these two parts along with the pilot bearing can be bought off the shelf anywhere in the world. If one chooses, these parts can be included with the RingeR at an additional charge. 4cyl. Transmission Adapter Part #-S2T4; 6cyl. Adapter Part # -S2T6 Patent Pending
