96 Tahoe, 350, 4L80E. Gas guage worked before he swapped out fuel pump. The tank slipped off of the jack and pulled the plug out of the sender while it was in the air. Now the gas guage is pegged all the way full and never moves. I was thinking ground problem, but we wanna be sure before we go tearing the tank out again. It's a bitch when you got dual exhaust!:D

Question is, is this a gound problem? Do you think that plug got torn up when it pulled apart? The pump runs fine, just some guage problems. Help.

I just completed an ebngine swap in my 89. and for the first 3 weeks after, my gas gauge was always at full until I noticed a wire at the engine/tranny bolts wasn't attached. Now it is working fine.. It seems likely your is doing the same thing..

It sounds like a bad ground, when gauges are grounded out , they will read "infinate resistance" and usually peg themselves to the highest point, and oviously if there is no ground to the gauge it shouldnt read anything. Check out the wiring on top of the gas tank with a volt meter, see which wire is grounded out.

thanks guys... I think he messed up the plug on the sender when the tank fell. Wouldn't be a big deal if the exhaust wasn't in the way.
