Here is what I am wanting to do:
To establish more WB I am would like to move the spring hanger back 5 inches on the frame to about where the frame starts to bend upwards on my YJ. The I would like to hang a set of buggys out the back of the jeep. I know that they would stick out some. If the are secured correctly do you all see any reason why this wouldnt work? I would also make a secure pinning device to pin it up when on the road. (Not that I am on the road that much).
So what are the probs. do you think that it will work. Anyone do anything similar?
If you want to hang the hanger/spring out the back anyways, then you ought to do a chevy spring swap in the process. Everyone was saying that the reason heeps don't do the swap is because it hangs the spring way out in the back.:bounce2: :bounce2: :bounce2:

I would not be hanging any spring hanger out the back...? It would be the spring and the shackle. It would be the same deal that H8 has but instead of mounting a shackle from the bumper my spring and shackle with the buggys would hang out
.
Yeah, I think we are talking about the same thing. I said springhanger/spring because I was calling your buggy spring the hanger since it is what hangs the shackle, right?

do it, post pictures, and tell us how it works!! anyways, the only problem i could see is that 3/4 are more prone to getting all messed up when you force the jeep somewhere an the axle is lodged somewhere. i saw one pretzel that way, but i could have happened just as easily with a normal spring.
i say go do it, if it doesn't work after some tinkering, you can always change back.
also, if the spring is moved to far out and doesn't contact something above it to stop it from inverting, it will get mangled eventually.

I think you would snap those buggy springs like crazy as they will be able to bend backwards or the bumper.
Or are you planning to put some kinda stop out there too?
Also you will not be able to pin them shut so high speed breaking may get kinda squirly.

I was thinking about putting a piece of tube steel out the back as far as the springs hang out the back so that they have something ot hit on. Then I could also pin them up. If I dont like the buggy springs then I can build a mount back there to just hang the shackle off of.....

this is starting to sound like a more pheasable plan. i'm starting to get interested. what springs are you going to use for the bottom pack. the top part really doesn't matter, but it would help to get a really strong one that won't fatigue so quickly. also, it would be easy to adjust your shackle angle and tweek the setup for flex.

i'm thinking we are gonna have to think up a way to protect those springs hanging out on the trail, think of all those ledges in moab you drag your rear bumper over. or backing up on the trail and hitting something.

I was thinking about using the Waggy 44044 Springs in the rear since we are going to use them in the front. They are seven leaf heavy duties, this would also help in moving the wheelbase back. Maybe move the bumber or build something around the rear to protect the springs.
