: Rubber spring bushings to poly spring busings. How many did I need?
Bridgestone 03-25-2002, 05:53 PM I want to change my rubber bushing to poly bushings. I know I need sixteen poly bushings for the shackles for the front and rear. What are the other poly bushings for? Or is 16 poly bushings all I need? When I look at the dealer's website, I see that they have more than 16 of them and some of the poly bushings are small? Thanks for your reply.
By the way, I bought some Energy Suspension poly bushings from 4wheelpartswholeasalers on the phone blindly for $65.00 front and rear. Is that a good deal?
Rockrat 03-25-2002, 06:21 PM padded but Il give it an answer anyways 4 bushings per shackle= 16 + 8 For the the large spring eye to frame mount :flipoff2:
Bridgestone 03-25-2002, 06:46 PM The 8 of them, where is that located? I only see the shackles rubber bushings which is 16. Thanks.

Oh, I am kind of stumped. I do not know where the large spring eye to frame mount is. If you tell me where, maybe I can find it. Is is at the end of the springs where you see the U bolts? Or close to that? Thanks.:D
Bridgestone 03-25-2002, 11:33 PM I know that I should have bought from a Samurai dealer who can give me advice. The other places do not know what to do? They are unfamiliar with a Samurai. One place just sent me 8 poly bushings for all four shackles and I had to return it to the place on my expense.
4wheelpartwholesalers do not know either. I have a picture of the bushings. I did not buy these but can you tell me where the four big poly bushings go to and the small ones? That is 24 total if I buy two packs. Thanks.

davefj40 03-26-2002, 11:26 AM look at your shackle and follow the spring until it meets the frame again. this might be what your looking for.
dave
Rockrat 03-26-2002, 11:46 AM Ok lets try again 2 large in one end of each spring 2 small in each end of spring 2 small in each frame shackle eye the four small ones are on the shackle side the two large are in the other side of spring that mounts to the frame GET IT! if not I'm sure it is in one of the stickys you must surrender your zuk for parts to the members of the board so I have dibs on the motor and t-case:D :D :smokin:
TNToy 03-26-2002, 12:43 PM Dang rockrat! Got run-on? :flipoff2:

Those are the bushings you'll be getting
http://www.trailtough.com/images/webOMEspgs_small.jpg
see the picture of the springs, notice how they have 2 openings. 1 side gets mounted straight to the frame and takes the 2 larger bushings, the other end connects to the shackle and the shackle connects to the frame and uses 4 bushings(2 for the spring:shackle and 2 for shackle:frame) so 1 spring needs 6 bushings X 4 springs = 24 bushings
J.Rickey 03-26-2002, 05:53 PM Hey, I got a question. How do you remove the "spring to frame" bushing (the one this guy can't seem to figure out - take a look under the frame and figure it out!!!). Mine seems to be pressed in and looks nothing like the rest. I tried a BFH but only smashed a couple of fingers. I have thought of burning them out but them I have to still be that ring out. Ideas?
Rockrat 03-26-2002, 07:00 PM Take a 3/8" drill bitt and drill all the rubber out from around the center and it will fall out then use a chisel and pop the outer steal sleave that is left in the spring out 15 min done both sides:smokin:
Bridgestone 03-26-2002, 08:19 PM Thanks all.
 :D
J.Rickey 03-26-2002, 09:03 PM sweeeeeeeet!:smokin:
graydiger 03-26-2002, 09:06 PM have a  and a :smokin: now that's it your done.
J.Rickey 03-26-2002, 09:29 PM Boy, I tell yu, I wish I would have done it when I changed my shackles the first time. My father inlaw has a car lift and that with pnuematic tools really kicked some ace! By the way drinking beer while doing it lessens the whole pain - skinned knuckle thing.
Bridgestone 03-27-2002, 02:39 AM I know about the poly bushing now but I still have a question. You see that Energy Suspension includes 6 steel inserts in a pack. Where do those go? I can imagine that one set of poly bushings (two) do not have the steel insert but which one thou? Thanks for your reply.
I asked 4wheelpartswholesalers and he did not know. He did not know how many bushings I needed also so it is ?? to me.
Rockrat 03-27-2002, 05:04 AM 2 packs do a truck 6 sleaves per pack x 2 =12 1 PER BOLT THAT IS EVERY SET OF 2 BUSHINGS GETS ONE SLEAVE now start forkin over parts.
DougO 03-27-2002, 06:00 AM http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/726829-bushing.JPG
thats where they go, for every bolt like rock rat says, unless its still a stock shackle then I'm not sure.
Oh yeah look at this package again, http://www.trailtough.com/images/bushings.jpg see where the sleeves are, keep them seperate like they are, the 4 at the top are for the shackle end(smaller bushings) the other 2 are for the frame mount end(larger bushings) they are different widths.
J.Rickey 03-27-2002, 07:15 AM I learned to the tube thing the hard way also.

for the love of GAWD! just buy the fawking things and replace every bushing that you take out with a new one, one at a time until there's no more bits left.
if you go to put a bolt in and it's too sloppy, obviously that one needs a sleeve.
if you go to put a bolt in but it won't fit or already HAS a sleeve, well..........
:rasta:
i got dibs on the liver, Rockrat. mmmmm with Chianti.....:skull:
Bridgestone 04-02-2002, 09:24 PM I am sorry about my other topics. I deleted them. It was not my intention to stir things up, really. :(
I just have another tech question. The large spring eye to frame mount bolt seems stuck on. I removed the nut and the bolt will not budge. Is it welded on? How can I remove that bolt? Thank you for your reply.

ACK. don't take things so seriously, man:)
that's what this place DOES, is stir things up:D
maybe just consider what you are about to post for awhile before you actually post it. (hmmmm. does "what colour of fuzzy dice is the best" sound like a good question?.......) NO. you will get tarred and feathered.
just hang in there and laugh and learn.
have you sprayed all the appropriate (read "everything") bits in penetrating oil-ie "PB Blaster, Rust Death, Die Rust, Die" etc. etc.-(you get the picture)
get the baby sledge hammer out and smack the end of the bolt until it's flush, then take a *slightly* smaller bolt and place it tip to tip and keep whacking until the other one comes out.
note: you really should use a punch of the correct diameter instead of a bolt to whack the other one with, but i don't know of anybody who actually uses the proper tool when a hammer and bolt will do:D
for those who tell you to use a torch and "burn" out the offending bushings etc, i really wouldn't do that if i were you.... no offence, but it doesn't sound like you should be messing around with torches 'n things at this stage of your experiance curve.
Bridgestone 04-03-2002, 01:00 AM Oh okay, now I know. :D
I am having trouble compressing the shocks to make it fit. I am using all my strength. Do I need a tool called a Spring Compressor to compress the shocks? Or do I need more strength? Geez, this is much harder than I imagined. Thanks for your reply.
izooki13 04-03-2002, 01:11 AM damn dude...yer makin this sound like a project from hell.

.......this has got to be 1 of 3 things. (or maybe a combination)
and no offence meant by me with any of them:
- are you a girl?
- are you a regular board member killing yourself laughing at the practical joke you are perpetrating? (Fatkid is this YOU:mad: :flipoff2: )
-you are a 16 year old girlfriend of a regular board member who is playing a practical joke on us?
 :D

Too funny!
ZuksRule 04-03-2002, 11:20 AM So whoose gonna start the "poll" ;)
mudlite 04-03-2002, 12:06 PM OMG.....sell your Suzuki NOW, and do us all a favour.
Or maybe you may want to go to ORC were they will pamper you all you need.
Maybe you shouldn't be using the 'little Tonka' hammer.
Why are you changing your bushings anyway? It will not flex as well, or ride as well. But if you are building a BLVD 4x4 , I guess its cool.
Bridgestone 04-03-2002, 08:00 PM I am serious. I know you all know this stuff. I is elementary to you all.
Okay, I want a 2 inch lift from 4 inch longer shackles. Someone told me to replace the rubber bushings because my handling will sufffer from the longer shackles.
Okay, I did three of them with the shackles. I am having trouble with one corner. In this only one corner, I took off the U bolt nuts and the shock nut on that one and it is very hard to figure how to put it back in. The springs seem like it does not want to hook up with the U bolts. And the shocks seem really stiff. What is a good way to reinstall the U bolts with the springs and that shock?
I am not lying. I was going to call a tow truck to bring it to the shop. Thanks for your reply. Okay, I am not a hardcore wheeler but at least I do not drive a stock Samurai like I usually see where I live. :D
Can someone tell me please? I know that I do not belong here because it is not a begginer board but you guys helped someone with a less complicated question before. It is very easy to you guys.
Rockrat 04-03-2002, 08:15 PM try putting a small jack under the spring and jacking up a bit maybee. it should compress your spring that is flatten it out the may help line things up a bit
izooki13 04-03-2002, 10:56 PM hey dude, i give you lots of credit for tryin this yourself...good job. i was the same way when i first started wrenchin, only i never had anyone around to help me with my questions...keep at it and ignore all the shit that these guys give you (sit back and just laugh cuz these guys are friggin hallarious) so keep posting your questions and there are nice enough guys around with enough patients that will answer your q's.
BTW- get up to around 250 posts and you'll get enough respect to get wierd q's answered...garunteed.
hey, where are you from anyway?
